Feeling fatigued in the morning

Have been feeling very tired in the morning. Feel that it has something to do with my blood sugar levels but not sure how to proceed. I have lots of food intolerances and have been following a low carb diet. My diet consists of stir fries, soup, salads and meet and veg. For the last couple of weeks it has taken me to at least lunch time to feel normal and today it was 3:30. I have lost some weight and am barely in the diabetic range. My breakfast is often a white fish stir fry or some salmon with tomatoes. At lunch I usually have a mackeral salad and at night either meat and veg or a home made curry and rice. Am I being too strict with cutting out carbs? This morning I had gluten free toast and this has been the worst day for me. I don't have a monitor and have been discouraged from getting one by my doctor's practise as they say it can be confusing as I am not on medication.
Is it what I eat the day before that affects me in the morning or is it my breakfast.
Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Hello @Blether, there are many reasons for feeling fatigued first thing in the morning. Since you feel better as the day progresses it might be a good idea to discuss this with your GP as there are non-diabetes related conditions associated with these symptoms. Goodluck

Gf anything would put me right to sleep. As well as sky rocket my bs.

This might be a long shot but are your souls and stir fries full of nightshade vegetables ( tomato potato eggplant and peppers of all kinds). I have many food intolerances and need to be careful with those

The other thing, probably more important is where's the fat? Perhaps adding some avocado, nuts, butter, olive oil would help. Also are you adding sea salt to your meals ? Low carb is dehydrating and sea salt helps a lot with fatigue

In my mind there is no such thing as too strict with carbs provided you are eating enough fat. You don't need to gob it on or eat saturated fats but fat is a required nutrient for life, even more so when low carbing. I would eat some avocado and some nuts if you tolerate them. Olives, mayo, oils etc. I don't tolerate dairy but if you do that's another option.

Hi and welcome!

Did you intend to lose weight? And do you want to lose more?
Have you been replacing the carbs you have removed from your diet with healthy fats? If you don't do that, your energy levels will definitely drop, and your body will need to raid its fat stores for the energy to keep you going.

Other suggestions for general weakness when low carbing are magnesium and potassium deficiencies, and maybe lacking in salt. Have you been adding extra in, and drinking bone broth?

Please don't think I am criticising your new way of eating (I low carb myself) but it is very easy for people who start this 'diet' to make a few errors because we have all been so indoctrinated into the low salt, low carb lifestyle...

Here is a of link which explain the easy newbie errors. No idea if you are doing any of these, but maybe they will help. :)

Thank you all so much for your help. I am starting to feel a bit more like myself now. I have gone back to having less carbs and especially limiting my gluten free food. I tend to limit my carbs during the day and eat some with my main meal. I found that having some carbs at night helps me sleep a bit better..

I had been taking probiotics for my stomach problems and I think that had been making me feel ill. I've stopped them and will try and be ultra careful about what I eat. Is reasonable at home but very difficult if you eat out or go away on holiday.

I was really feeling low when I posted and your support and suggestions helped me greatly. This forum has been much more helpful than my doctor and the health professionals that are supposed to support diabetics. Take care everyone.
