Feeling Frustrated

Last week, When the doctor told me I was diabetic I didn't really respond with any emotion. It just sat with me and I just felt hopeful that I was eventually going to get some energy back if treated properly. Been on metformin for 4 days now.

Today I feel really upset about it and wonder if it's possible that the high blood sugar was just a temporary thing and I won't be diabetic.

I feel lost because they haven't told me what type I am. She said I have to meet with nurse and maybe have few more tests cos I don't fit the description of either type. Does the nurse contact me?

I already eat fairly healthy and I exercise a lot. Is it possible that I can add more exercise and even healthier diet that it will go away? I feel very frustrated as I have always looked after myself physically and tried to eat well.

Sorry for ranting but I feel that this is the only place I can do it...

Hi DD

Sorry you are feeling frustrated :( Could the diagnosis have been such a shock that it has just hit you? A delayed reaction?

Perhaps call the doc surgery in the morning to ask if you have to arrange to see the nurse or whether they will contact you.

Until they have completed their tests, you will not know exactly what you are dealing with and how to move forward positively. Please stick around. All the best.

Hi,
as already said, i would phone and see what happens nxt with the nurse, keep an eye on your bloods in the meantime incase they go higher,
as you say you cant really do much more till you know more

HI. It comes a shock to most people at first so you are not alone. Some people manage to hold their diabetes at bay by having a good, reduced carb diet.. Are you overweight or slim? How old are you? The majority of diabetics are diagnosed as T2 and are usually above average weight and in their mid to late years. Those who are younger and not overweight are more likely to fit the T1 category. Hopefully the nurse will do some more tests and explain in more detail. Do come back with more questions after your visit with the nurse
