Yesterday I went out with a friend Christmas shopping. we had breakfast out - I had two fried eggs, bacon, half a tomato, half a chipolata sausage (it tasted very 'bready') and finally succumbed to a half slice of toast liberally buttered. I also had a cup of (very strong) coffee - caffeinated. Went on shopping ok, lots of walking about etc, and by about 1pm was feeling ropey. Shaky, sickish, and the smell of food in a farm shop nearly made me sick. Didn't have my meter to check :( what my bs might be. Didn't want to say anything because didn't want to worry friend.

Got home, had a drink, felt better but not hungry. BS was 5.9 so I didn't eat anything but went food shopping. When I got back, was starving, made myself an omelette with cheese and about half a dozen chips, but I hadn't eaten more than a mouthful or two (of the omelette) before I felt horrible again, hot and lightheaded. When I took my BS it was 6.8.

Was this some kind of complicated liver dump, do you think, or the effect of caffeine? (gave it up because I was getting palpitations and the dr said nothing wrong but 'anxiety' - it's when they picked me up on all this prediabetes?type two thingy just over a month ago.)

My Fbs tends to run about 5.5 - 6.5, and around 6.8 -7.7 1 hr after meals, 5.9-6.9 after 2 hrs. Biggest spike I've so far recorded after 2 hrs (after a silly spoonful of apple crumble) 10.5

I feel like I'm rubbish at this and not managing what I should be doing properly- if I'd not eaten 'before' this diagnosis, I'd probably have had a couple of biscuits when I got hungry and felt better. But I'm really scared about the effects of long term higher-than-they-should-be bs results... and I have had to be quite restrictive to get these figures. (Bread very occasionally, and only half a slice; no biscuits, pasta, rice. Small amounts of potatoes ok)

I'd appreciate any input... I'm so new to all this I'm not sure what I'm doing right/wrong

try some salt, when you cut the rubbish you also cut a lot of salt.. have a teaspoon in a glass of water, if you feel better in a couple of hours ..it could be lack of salt
drink 1-2lt a day
it could be anything ..exercise, caffeine, low sugar and a liver dump,..it's easier when it's one thing at a time

It sounds more like flu than anything diabetic and you don't seem to be doing anything to cause it that I can see. I have heard that some people who start low carbing get flu like symptoms but I am not sure in your case.

Did you start low carbing with a vengeance? Are you overdoing it? Have you just caught a cold?

Sounds like you have picked up a bug. Might have been something to do with food handling in the restaurant you went to?
You can always ask for decaff as most restaurants supply it.
I note that you do not eat much fibre, if the meals you quote are typical. Do you not eat salads and vegetables?

If I have strong coffee on an empty stomach (read lower blood scores), I can feel very grotty. If I fel low, I might still have a coffee, but I'd make sure it was weaker, and I added plenty of milk (which also lifts my bloods a little), or I'll have tea.

Your symptoms sound very much like mine last weekend.

I ended up sick off work for 2 days.
