Feeling hypo?

Ive done the carb counting course DAFNE about 3 weeks ago now, and ive really tried with it. They say that you shouldnt test in between meals which i havent been doing.
The only problem is that i feel hypo all the time, ill be doing something one minute and ill get that feeling and want to check - but my blood sugar will be 10 for example. Does anyone have this problem? Feeling hypo even at 10? my body is used to running on high blood sugars (due to bad control) but ive changed that now.
I have full hypo awareness and can always tell when im hypo - and apparently when im not!

Laura,

What you are experiencing is false hypo's with a bg of 10, no doubt your control will have improved since introducing the teachings of DAFNE and your body will be adapting to the lower levels. I choose to ignore the advice about not testing between meals, the nurse on my course even agreed that it wasn't right and there are exceptions, when feeling low its important to test and eat accordingly no matter what.

I believe the not testing advice is due to patients using correction doses between meals, often people panic when their bg is higher than normal after 2 hours from eating and then correct with more insulin, this can be dangerous as the meal-time dose will still be working and can still be active for 4-5 hours after injecting, including a correction can often lead to more hypo's than is necessary.

Stick with what you've learnt and the false hypo's will ease-up over time! :)

What Nigel said! I also get hypo type feelings when my BG is falling...so can feel hypo, test, have a readinng of say 6, but 1/2 later, when I retest, I am at 3. There are others who can "feel their BG falling".

Hypo, as is often said is below 4.....is about 1.5 lower than what is considered normal (I think!). So I always think of it, as, if you have been used being say, 13, then 10 will feel substantially lower, hence the false hypos feeling. The good news is that you will get used to your new levels..keep up the good work :D
