Been for a mountain bike ride today and felt awful from the off. Couldn't keep up with guys that normally have trouble keeping up with me! Half way round was sick so came home early. Checked bs.... 7.0 (happy with that) checked Ketones.....2.0 (happy with that) heads thumping, feel a bit dizzy and nauseous. Ketone levels have been as low as 0.2 and as high as 2. Is this normal? Once in ketosis do you naturally stay in ketosis (obviously keeping carbs low) or do you drift in and out depending on time of day, amount of exercise etc. Having read about symptoms of low carb flu and having suffered it slightly when I first started could I be going through it again?

People may get carb flu when they're first cutting down on carbs and their bodies suffer from sugar withdrawal symptoms. But once we're used to a low carb way of life, it's not likely we'll to have the same issues again unless we go back to a high carb diet long enough for our bodies to get "addicted" to carbs again, so I would doubt that's why you're feeling bad.

See also your previous thread re ketones - where I said that I can go right up and down and drift in and out, and as far as I know this is quite normal. Since I'm type 2 though and I believe you are type 1, it's probably worth posting in the type 1 section of the forum asking for advice there, as you may need to consider insulin issues too?

Thanks Robbity, yes I am T1 and I think I've picked up a bug of some sort, hopefully a good night's kip will see me right.
Tbh I think I'm looking into it too much and worrying about numbers. My bs is spot on most of the time now, Ironman trainings going well (except today!) seem to be getting into ketosis so I suppose all is good., Would like to understand the ketosis more tho, you say you go in and out, does this depend on anything in particular? Time of day, exercise etc?

I am a Type2, but it helps for me to drink some broth prior to my workouts. I feel like you described when my Na+ is low.

Sorry. It means sodium.

When I bumped up my exercise regimen, I found that I was struggling to maintain strength and endurance. Instead, I felt like I wanted to crumple to the floor out of exhaustion. Someone suggested I try broth and it did the trick.

OK that's great thanks . Do you have a recipe at all and I'll give it a go. Ta

No recipe, just a bouillon cube in hot water within an hour before my workout. It may not work for you, but it is worth a try.
