Feeling unwell all he time

I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a week ago and am controlling it by diet. I had no symptoms at all before being diagnosed and felt normal, but since cutting out the sugar and carbs I feel terrible, my body constantly aches and everything is an effort. My GTT came back as 7 and my cholesterol is 5.5. Is this a sugar withdrawal thing and if it is how long does it last
Thanks in advance

hi, welcome :)

sorry your feeling poorly, when you say cut out the carbs, to what extent did you cut them out please?

I actually started feeling poorly and nauseous when I started on my very low carb diet, although I felt better than I had done for ages during my earlier cutting down carbs phase. I believe it's also the result of your body feeling rather peevish about switching over from burning carbs to burning fat.

Have a Google for low carb flu aka Atkins flu aka ketosis flu, and keep up your fluid intake! It should hopefully ease off when your body has accepted its new diet.

hi Andy
no bread or potatoes at all and only 30g of uncooked rice at meal times when needed. Only a week into this and felt better before hand
Thanks Robbity will check that out

Thanks Robbity
Just checked out the Low carb flu and that is exactly how I feel
fingers crossed will only last for a few more days :P

ahh, sorry i missed your reply, glad you got the answer, keep it up :)

I'm new to this to and the diet I got also effects me but I think that's mainly because I've been cut out from the things I like eating the most, so it will take time to get used to

It's probably a good idea to get an electrolyte drink or something similar while you go through the initial adaptation to low carb.

I found it took a little while for my body to get used to reduced carbs (I'm not very low carb). It takes time for your body to adjust. Now, I only feel 'strange' if I try something new and get a little spike (I'm still learning what suits me), otherwise my BG is in the 4s and 5s with a 6 now and then, so near non diabetic. Just give it time:)

I'm so glad you posted this. I feel exactly the same and was diagnosed a few weeks ago as T2 and diet controlled.
I feel really achy and tired. I've ended up having nearly a week off work to try and get my head round it :(
I just thought I'd caught a bug but I'll look into it more now.
Thank you!

happy, you're type 2 like me, not trying to minimise the effects of T2, but it sounds more like depression
diabetes can/is progressive and if your diet and exercise is right and still have high BG, then maybe it's time to move up the drug ladder
