Feeling very low

Please can someone help me. I am Type2 . I have under active thyroid, high blood pressure, polymalgia and now a new diagnosis of Atrial Fibrillation since about a week ago. I am also on Rivaroxaban which is an anti coagulant to prevent stroke.
I haven't managed my diabetes too well. Put on Metformin last year. It made me feel ill and was vomiting. Then on the slow release Metformin and no change. I stopped taking it because my mood was low. Last week when going for a fasting blood test to the hospital, I collapsed and spent 24 hours on the cardiac ward. They put me back on Metformin again on the highest dosage much against my wishes. I am 67, at university and since being on it again, I can't function. My vision is blurred, so I can't see properly to do my work so have had to take a break from university. I know it's the Metformin as its a repeat of last year but it feels even worse tonight. I am in a very dark place now and can't see the doctor till Tuesday.

I would suggest to ring 111 would also ask your go for something else to replace the metformin

I agree with @ally1

Do your test your own BG levels? Your vision may be blurred because they are too high. What is your diet like? Is metformin your only diabetes drug?

I'm also on Gliclazide. My diet could be better. I don't test. I tried to tell the GP that my vision was blurred, that I felt sick all the time and that I was feeling bad and she said I had to keep taking it.

Well my advice would be to get yourself a meter and test yourself. Diet is the most effective way of controlling T2 with or without other drugs too. It's easier to stick to a better diet if you know you are doing yourself some good. When you see the figures come down you know you're in control. I found my vision got much better when my BGs were under control.

I also had AF for 2 spells of 2 years each.

Thank you both. I haven't taken my latest dose of Metformin tonight. I do have a meter but my surgery won't provide strips and I can't afford them.

I'm so sorry you are feeling down, I don't think I am qualified to give you advice as I have only just started to use this forum, but I can tell you my experience.....two weeks ago I started testing my blood and adjusting my diet accordingly .... my BS level was 17 first thing in the morning, I am keeping a food diary and record what I eat and what my BS levels are, I have discovered that carbs even wholemeal supposedly healthy ones send my levels up, so I have cut out all obvious carbs and this morning my fasting level was 8.6 proving 100% that for me diet is key to controlling this awful disease, I do hope you can get some help, I personally have found this forum invaluable..Good Luck

Welcome to the forum! You have come to the right place, hopefully you will feel better having other people to talk to. Are you on any anti-depresents? It might be worth discussing with the doctor next week. Metformin can make you feel a little poorly at first but it does settle down after a few weeks (well it did for me). My vision goes blurry when my BGs are high.

It would help you to try and test after certain foods. I know the strips are expensive but it is essential if you want to try and control your BGs, especially if you want to come off Metformin and try for diet alone. Try asking the doc again for some strips, my doc did give me a prescription at the beginning but I haven't bothered asking for more. It might be worth considering a different monitor - I have a SD Code Free and the strips seem to be a little cheaper.

Hi there - just following up - haven't received an email yet. Can you PM via the forum if you get this. Thanks.
