Hi all. I try and keep my carb intake to between 50g - 100g daily. What I am finding is that I have no energy, I struggle to move around. Is this a side affect of eating fewer carbs? Or am I just being pathetic and need to man up more?

My understanding is that your reaction is perfectly normal. Opponents of the LCHF diet always say that it is the carbs that give you energy. Supporters of LCHF will say that you can get your energy from fats. I started with a VLCHF diet and it worked wonders for my BGLs. However, I noticed two side-effects:
a) I could not eat enough to keep my weight stable; and
b) I was low on energy.
I increased my carb intake to about 150gms per day and sought other ways to keep my BGLs within reasonable limits. So far, so good. The increased carbs have:
a) Stabilised my weight and
b) Increased my energy levels.
I would say that you have "manned-up" by tackling your diabetes head-on. Just keep trying, keep reading, and keep testing.
Best of luck,
Peter

Hi @DumfriesDik It sounds as if you might be experiencing what is known as "carb flu" many people feel as you describe during the first weeks of switching to a low carb diet. Drinking lots of water and upping your salt intake a little can help with this. You can read about carb flu here www.dietdoctor.com

When you get the LCHF balance right its amazing ... are you eating enough fat ... I was on 20g of carbs a day and all my low fats foods swapped with high fats one .. plus a little extra olive oil and coconut oil went into cooking the foods. Once you cut the carbs your body looks to get its energy from fats ... If you are very new to LCHF way of eating then it will be carb flu .. as your body adjusts to your new way of eating .. also carbs are very additive and don't give up easily

If you are worried do speak to your Dr

Personally I had the complete opposite, since doing LCHF (and i don't think I have it right but my carb intake is tiny) I have never had so much energy! As people have said, if you have only just started it, it could be the "flu" thing. Hope you feel better soon though x

Thanks everyone. I will stick at it as the numbers have come down tremendously.
