I’ve been diagnosed by a private doctor who didn’t mention anything about feet. I was in the pharmacy today and I overheard a conversation about someone being to get they feet checked because they are type 2 diabetic. Do I need to get my feet checked? Is a pedicure enough?
Hi
@Talya2022.
Rather remiss of a doctor to diagnose with enough information being given to patient
But, not too unusual either, sadly.
If it's type 2, there are certain complications we should be aware of , so it's worth googling it, with an open eye to understanding where YOU are currently at.
The spikes in our blood sugars, cause damage to the inner pathways within our bodies.
From the largest to the smallest parts .
This damage, if left unchecked can have dreadful implications.
So it's best to be aware of what they MIGHT be, and ways to limit them.
The feet & eyes seem to be particularly vulnerable and the first places to show signs, I believe.
So checks at those pints are very important.
Your doctors should be helping you arrange for these tests to be performed.
In the UK, my eye tests have been once yearly
It is not the tests opticians do.
So any eye test there won't necessarily spot damage or impending damage
The feet I get checked once maybe twice a year depending on being called in to GP,s for a check up .
Just to say these tests are meant to prevent damage that can take ages to present itself.
So while it is best to get checked, don't be too concerned if it doesn't happen within days.
It was more likely weeks if not months I waited for mine to be done .
