Fell off the wagon but think I'm ok!!

Yesterday I fell off the wagon BIG time! I had to get some petrol and, whilst waiting in the queue to pay, there was a packet of skittles calling 'eat me, eat me' so I bought them and munched them on the way home which took about an hour. This is most unusual for me because even before being diagnosed as T2 I never had a sweet tooth! When I got home I, with some intrepidation, tested my BS and it was 10.2 :arghh::arghh: however, an hour later, it was down to 6.1 :singing::singing: which seems to be a good result!!
 
I bet been used in the past to treat a hypo, even.
Sugar cravings are apparently a hereditary thing for us diabetics. Too much carbs in diet = cravings.
A few low carbers can vouch for that.
Mind u I've sinned out of habit rather than craving the item. Especially if bought for me as a gift.
Carbs are everywhere.
Does society need so much?
Indian peshwaris, popadoms, bhajis, samosas, rice.
Chinese noodles, rice and curry/sauce thickeners.
African carbs, Caribbean carbs and of course European carbs. (Pizza, pasta and bread, potatoes. Sugary treats from all nations. It's all over the place.
Too available.
We do a fantastic job trying to keep carbs from our diet.
You should be proud to say only skittles managed to get through your net.
Keep fighting the cause. Well done for not giving in totally. :)

Unless you are the strongest person in the world I think everyone will fall off occasionally - it's falling off repeatedly that hurts LOL - I'm sure you will be back on track soon. I fell off the wagon for ice cream (proper homemade stuff) on Wednesday - boy it was good, and worth the brief spike - seem to be returning to normal now.
 
I swan dove off the wagon with a proper Canadian poutine. That's french fries covered in cheese, gravy, pulled pork and bacon. Took days for fasting to come back to normal but oh my was it good. it is my only cheat meal in more than 4 months. It is not the end of the world as long as it doesn't happen very often. We are human.

Recommends low carbing for 6 days a week and feasting for the seventh. Since I was diagnosed type 2 over 2 years ago I have low carbed for 6 days and on the seventh eaten a Chinese meal and ice cream. Done it every week and my last hcb1 was 4.7. Possibly I have been lucky???
 
@bobrobert - wow, Bob, seems like it! I wish that was the case. I could handle that much better in life but I don't think - from what I've read - that most can get away with that. Are you on meds?
 
No meds. 8.3 when diagnosed. 1st year 5.3. Second year 4.7. I regularly check myself with a Acu check mobile and rarely over 8.
 
I would not really class one packet of sweets as falling off the wagon unless you do it every day. Sticking rigidly to any diet can get us down at times and just a little treat can really lift our mood

I must be honest @bobrobert . I was begining to see through those lines.
An old friend lost a lot of weight. I may add she wasn't diabetic, at least we don't think she is. She was strict mon-friday then had a treat friday and saturday night. ( alcohol and carbs) She never overate whichever day she was on.
Now she may have had withdrawal symptoms on a monday morning (grumpy and slower) but she was content with her diet and never waivered from that for decades.
So when you see someone grumpy on a monday morning don't assume because they are back to work. They may be just having an internal war on carbs to fight!
Myself I seem to think thin people don't have to make an effort or sacrifice their carbs. Maybe a lot do?
 
dont beat yourself up over it felt bit light headed and dizzy at work today so sunk a snickers (marathon ) bar felt fine after that.Did a 10 mile bike ride when i got home to pay my pennace lol.Joking aside an odd treat now and then doesn't hurt its only if it becomes habbit (was serious about snickers bit though didn't feel good )
