About 3 years ago i was diagnosed as pre diabetic with a figure of 45mmol. Joined the forum , went on the low carbs form kind of watched what i ate . Annual tests showed i was was hovering in the 42 -45 area . Tested last week hit 52 . So now its a whole new ball game . Eyes to be tested and still to have the discussion with diabetic nurse . As far as my carb intake etc I have hit the ground running . Have drawn up a food list and already started , i expect to tweak it a bit once i have seen dietician. My one question just now .Is it possible to bring my figure down by diet and exercise alone ? I can already hear the nurse saying ..you HAVE to take this tablet . i already take tabs for blood pressure and cholesterol. I was hoping 3-4 months on my lifestyle change . then retest for figure THEN take it from there .

Hi Johnny and welcome back. I’ll tag @daisy1 for her useful info post as a reminder for you.
So pleased you’ve hit the ground running with the low carb way. It is definitely possible to get your HbA1c back to non diabetic levels on low carb diet alone. The nurse may well say you HAVE to take a tablet but you don’t HAVE to at all, Health Care professionals are there to advise not dictate. Just politely say that you want to give diet a try first. Talking of tablets, did you know that Statins (cholesterol tablets) can raise blood sugars so please ask your nurse for your cholesterol numbers, triglycerides, HDL & LDL, not just the total. You may find you don’t need them.

I choose what goes into my body.. not any nurse.
If you don't want to take pills they can't exactly force you.
Have you had any cardiac events and what's your cholesterol levels like?
Also do you measure blood pressure at home to check you don't have "white coat" syndrome?

Cheers for the speedy replies Rachox--- will defo ask about triglycerides. Not sure re past figures . Bulkbiker --no cardiac events. and used to check bp at home 3 years ago but similair readings at health centre so no concern there and since stopped . unit gathering dust now

If you live in England your surgery probably puts test results on line as they were asked to do by NHS England. You can contact your surgery and ask if they do, and how to register for this service. You will then be able to see some historical blood test results.
Meanwhile, ask the receptionist for a print out of your latest results. You are entitled to these and they will show which tests you had and what your results were.

Thanks Bluetit1802. Getting the past results sounds a good idea . May even see a pattern forming over the years

In that case I'd be querying why they have you on a drug that has known associations with elevating blood sugars for a condition that you don't have..?

Many have. Many start the med and see improvement and get off the meds.My goal same as yours,I dont want another lifetime med.Dr and I agreed on that plan.

My A1c was twice yours, did 6 weeks on metformin and now Im diet controlled,in remission, in about 3 months overall. Oh,and I havent added any exercise.Per Dr request.

Regarding exercise...."What will happen in winter" Dr. asked...Dr wanted me to show him this is diet control alone when I stopped the med as I live in snow country and cant get outside to do walking in the winter .

Yup,its all been done with LCHF.
