Female & Not Losing Weight on LCHF? FYI.

I read the piece, and I have to thank my mother.

In between carb binges, she seems to have been on every calorie-controlled low fat diet out there. As a small child, watching her eat grilled grapefruit or one lettuce leaf, a tablespoon of cottage cheese and a small tomato I would worry that when I was a grown up, I would be expected to eat like that too.

So as a direct result, of seeing her binge-diet, I have never ever dieted. I've never experienced the low fat yogurt and one crispbread type thing.

It sounds awful and I think it's terrible that so many women feel so under pressure to be thinner in order to get a partner or a promotion.

Presumably, not dieting, that means my metabolism works after a fashion, despite T2DM. I have to say that when I've not lost weight on LCHF, it was because I felt I was losing weight too fast. I didn't want to lose, then rebound.

In eating low carb, I'm not counting calories or carbs, I'm merely avoiding the things that my body doesn't handle well and giving it nutrients and energy in other forms. To me it's a way of life not a diet.

If you're having problems losing weight, here's a big X

Thanks so much for this link, definitely a site worth following:)

I'm looking forward to the second part. I went LCHF solely for the blood sugar management as I didn't have any weight to lose but I still really like the idea that I'm not losing any because I'm getting stronger & healthier :)

She has described me exactly. I started LCHF in an attempt to get control of my T2 and the weight loss has been a nice bonus. I'd yoyo dieted for about 40 years and for a year prior to starting LCHF I'd been maintaining my not inconsiderable weight on 1000 calories per day.

It felt totally decadent not fixating on calories any more and not worrying about the scales. Even weirder is the reduction of my carb jelly belly. It's nice to finally feel relaxed around food.

My attempt at a vlc diet when I was in my twenties failed miserably and made me so ill that my GP told me to eat proper food as my body was literally shutting down. I was later informed by a consultant that my metabolism was too efficient and reducing calories put it into survival mode and slowed everything down - in addition my thyroid couldn't make up it's mind whether it was over or under active! Since then I ate what I thought was a healthy diet - low fat foods, plenty of fruit and veg, jacket potatoes, brown bread, pasta and rice etc but still, gradually, put on weight. In the last year or so a combination of finally beginning treatment for Hypothyroidism and a LCFF diet to control my sugars has resulted in me losing about 3 stone. I still want/need to lose a bit more (approx 2 stone) but my weight loss has slowed so at the moment I'm concentrating keeping to my new weight stable and welcome the loss of an odd pound or two!!
