Hey guys I got fever and throat pain and a lot of inflammation in my chest but my blood sugar is in range so I'm scared to take any other medications except for paracetamol to relieve the pain is it ok if I take syrups for my throat pain will it rise my blood sugar I'm in a lot of pain I take a high dose of paracetamol for my high body temperature and pain relief could it be the reason my blood sugar is normal

Hi @Awiiiiin and I'm so sorry you're not feeling well.

If I remember correctly you're on insulin?
Some syrups will have sugar in them (there may be sugar free ones?) but unless you're on a zero carb diet I would have thought that you could include them in your carb allowances???

To be honest most diabetics expect a blood sugar rise when they are ill so I personally wouldn't stress too much if your levels go up slightly. Have your diabetic team given you sick day rules on how to modify your insulin when ill?

Not a diabetic issue but a general health one: I hope you are being careful not to overdose on the paracetamol? (Check whether any additional meds you take contain paracetamol).

If in doubt, talk to a health care professional, particularly if your blood sugars go high and you can't get them down. But non diabetics need doctors too so don't be afraid to seek help just for the high temperature. Are you living with others so that you have someone to help you?

I hope you feel better soon.

Sorry you're not very well, and hope you feel better soon. I think Ellie's answered your question on syrup for your throat pain, but I just wondered if you'd done a Covid test, to rule that out?

No but I think it's COVID BCS I'm the last person in the family to get it they were all sick and now I'm sick but we're not going anywhere even if it is a flu BCS I don't want others to become sick because of me.
