Hi,

Has anyone successfully been able to get to Fiasp insulin on the NHS? Spoke to my DSN yesterday about getting it as my job/lifestyle means that I can't really inject novorapid 20-25 minutes before eating to lessen the spikes in BG, so this would be of great help and I know it doesnt cost the NHS any more money. But she had barely heard of it and said it wasnt on their system to be able to prescribe it. I've only been Type 1 for a year, so not sure what is the best way of going about getting it.

There are a lot of people using it now, yes. I'm surprised at your DSN. It's been available for more than six months, so that's disappointing.

The only way I can suggest is checking what your prescription says. If it says "Insulin Aspart" you can ask the Pharmacist to order Fiasp instead of Novorapid.

*Note - @Jaylee - was typing as you mentioned me ;)

I have it. Only used two so far. I'm not sure how I'd describe the results. Sometimes it just doesn't seem to do anything and I end up taking far more in adjustments. Then I switch back to Novorapid.

I did get my Dr to put both on my prescription so I can retry as I see fit.

Thank you all.

Yeah I was surprised @tim2000s I told her it came out in April and she asked how I found out about it.

I also explained that it is quick acting and see just said that I should expect spikes from eating and not to worry about them etc. Bit disappointed to be honest, but I'll keep trying

That's frankly terrible from a DSN. I assume that she's the GP Surgery one not a hospital clinic one? If she is may I suggest you have a conversation with the practice Diabetes Specialist GP and raise your concerns about what she's saying to patients as that's really not okay.

@tim2000s I will do, and thank you! Am I able to demand to be put onto Fiasp do you think?
It will depend on whether they have it on their formulary. In most places it should be there by now, but many GPs are wary of changing insulin and may require that they refer you to the hospital clinic.

Wow, quite a difference to when I switched over to Fiasp. My DSN suggested it even though they hadn't really anyone else on it yet, gave me a leaflet about it and sent off a prescription advice to my GP that day. Do you not get seen by anyone at a hospital clinic who could push this for you @alhubb?

No, @db89, I don't. I was previously at a hospital clinic but I have since moved to a difference area (Staffordshire) and they do all their diabetic stuff within GPs. Its a shame as I really like my nurse etc at the hospital.

Al, that's odd. There is supposed to be a secondary care specialist available to all T1Ds as the staff in GP practices, with the best will in the world, are generalists.

FYI I just wrote out a ‘repeat’ prescription request note at my GPs and wrote that it was made by Novo Nordisk, cost the same and hospital advised I try it.

I don’t understand how it’s not on their system but on other UK GP systems? I bet she doesn’t know how to search for item not prescribed to another patient at that surgery?! Maybe it’s worth trying to get a transfer to hospital? Good luck.

I’m due to start this week eeek

Hi Fiasp costs the same as my old Hi Humalog. I have been on it for three days and it is so good . I use 30 per cent of the the old dosage and my BG has been in range all the time. I persuaded my Endocrinologist to recommend it after I researched and went armed with recommendation letter and the cost issue in to see my GP. It worked
