Type 1 Fifty years on insulin

Hi.
Last month I had been on insulin for fifty years.
My doctor has given me a letter describing how I have been on insulin since 1975.
My question is do I still receive a gold medal for this achievement ?
Hi,

I’m headbutting the big five O.. 1976.
I think the charity still gives them out with a valid “receipt”from your GP?
Which it sounds like you have…

Congratulations! :)

I'd say congrats, but I'm not sure if that is appropriate in this case :hilarious: I'm still upset they got rid of the smaller years. I want a medal for 25 years!!

I got mine about three months ago it was organised by the diabetic consultant at my hospital with my annual review , it was a nice surprise to receive it a couple of weeks later .

Hi
I reached 50 years this easter but decided not to apply for a medal.
My hba1c is the best its ever been at 39 or 5.7.
I know someone who has a cambridge pump thingy and my hba1c is better than theirs and this made me giggle a bit simply because i managed to beat the algorithm with MDI.

Gosh we've seen some changes my favourite being the libre and 4mm needles.

Congratulations @WILCOMAN and do you remember Blakes 7 from the 1970s?

Well Vila once said .....

"i'm going to live forever.....or at least die trying "

i wish you well

Tony

Well done Wilcoman. A fantastic achievement. As far as i’m aware you’re still entitled to a medal, but you’ll have to apply for it and provide proof. I received my 50 year medal in August 2011, which was presented to me at Southend Hospital where i have been a patient since my diagnosis in 1961. They laid on a lovely buffet for myself and my family and the local newspaper did a whole page on my story with some great photos. Fame at last!!! Then in 2021 i received my 60 year medal. Because of Covid there was no presentation, but the local newspaper did another article. So, i am now aiming for my 70 year medal in 2031!! Medals aside, well done everyone out there who is managing to survive this dreadful, relentless illness.
