Live on insulin yesterday. Let the basal testing commence.

Starting doses even lower than on MDI with the pump set up rules of thumb. with a basal 0.2U/hr and 54g:1U ratio.

We'll see how that goes on for a few days, but I'll start the afternoon basal test today.

It does seem crazy low doses doesn't it! My basal goes down to 0.1u in the afternoons but I still hypo if I don't eat sometimes. DSN is keen to not go lower than that though! It's crazy how the body works because overnight I need 0.425u. No wonder I struggled so much on MDI during the day!

I started on crazy low bolus rates too but that quickly changed. I need far more bolus than basal, is about a 70/30 split which greatly upsets my consultant lol he leaves it alone though because I have the basal tests to prove it!

How was the first night of broken sleep?

Good luck hope all goes well. I went live with my pump 2 hours into my induction, bit of a shock lol but now I wouldn't be without my pump. I'm also still amazed re the basal rate requirements changing sometimes on an hourly basis.

Didn't do an overnight basal test last night. Planning afternoon today, morning tomorrow, evening on Friday.

Overnight likely to be thrown into chaos anyway with a trip to Trinidad on Sunday.

Ooooh Trinidad is nice. Not that you'll spend much time on the beach I assume!

Were you not required to test every 2hrs overnight even if it wasn't a basal test? We were until the night basal tests were complete

We're obviously softer down south.

No specification to do so, but I may do some myself anyway.

Oh the luxury of a full nights sleep! I think the fear was for hypos/hypers overnight so double check until we knew we were all set up properly.

They did have someone who went into DKA and had a fun hospital after not checking overnight a few weeks before I started, so they were very clear that skipping it wasn't an option! I had overnight basal sorted within the week though so not too bad

Thats what I've got to do, not really looking forward to that bit

It's not too bad. I can't basically test in my sleep these days haha I didn't mind it because I had always known Id have to and it was for a good reason!

Yeah sure it will be fine at the time.

Either I'm lucky, or the rules of thumb are pretty good.

I've done two extended basal tests so far and had almost flat line readings throughout. Still need to do an overnight basal test at some time as I've been dropping overnight, but have not had time yet. Will probably have to do that after I get back from Trinidad.

The ratio was way out though at 54, I've already dropped it to 45:1 and planning to drop it to 40 based on a 5 hour bolus test.

I've also learned that I don't have sufficient fat on my abs for a cannula - this one is slightly uncomfortable.

I haven't managed a canula anywhere other than abs/side/lower back. Tried thighs a few times but it was very painful every time

You sound to be on top of things, good stuff. :)

I found that although I got my basal need to be ok during the day, when I eventually did stay awake basal testing overnight, the changes that I needed to make also meant that I needed to re do my basal testing during the day again.

Dont expect miracles with the pump as there will be times when bg can easily go up as it can going down...sometimes there will be an obvious reason but somdtimes not and it gets a bit difficult to know what has caused the changes. Make sure that you have a plentiful supply of bg strips and hypo stuff.

Good luck with the Cellnovo and take everything in yr stride

Thanks,

I'm kind of expecting this to be a bit of an iterative loop in some respects until things are refined. And then as you say, there are those unknowm buggeration factors.
