Hey everyone

After nearly 5 years of taking Metformin I have finally seen the diabetics specialist today, I have suffered so bad with diarrhoea even with slow release that he has started me today on Sitagliptin for 3 months, then if they have not brought down low enough a drug that pee's out the sugars and can help weight loss, sounds like heaven to me! So here's hoping Hoping everyone is good x

Hi. Are you having a low-carb diet; by far the best way to keep the weight and blood sugar under control? You may need meds as well but the right diet is key.
 
I could only stand it for about 5 weeks - but it made no difference when I stopped taking it - not to my diabetes, I got my life back and have been going out to all sorts of clubs and events since I got control again.
You must have the patience of a saint to stick with it for years - I hope that your new tablets work.

What's it called?

I too tolerated the awful side effects of Metformin for 5 years. Unfortunately I was prescribed Rosiglitazone which with the aid of Citilapram helped me gain 8 stone or more. The Rosiglitazone was the culprit and the Citilapram helped me not to give a ****. Just as well the Rosiglitazone screwed up my liver because I was taken off it and lost weight until prescribed Gliclazide. Rosiglitazone is no longer available in this country.

Low carb has helped me tolerate Metformin, probably along with the codeine I take. Now taking Januvia because low carb isn't enough, still not showing much change after a week though, so interested in this other drug you refer to.

poor you sounds horrendous, hope Januvia starts to improve and help you, fingers crossed, the doctor did say my BM may continue to read high for a couple of weeks, good luck

I think it must be these two drugs which act differently to diabetic drugs so far.

Most of my obvious medical problems seem to be related to side effects, I expect my real medical problems, high BP (well controlled) and high BG (work in progress again) are probably chipping away but I don't notice so much.

I avoided the sheet of paper that came with the Januvia, and didn't read my wife's BNF . . . . . for the first week of taking the stuff. So, I definitely have the runny nose (v embarrassing because there's no warning), shortness of breath (irritating because I imagine people just think "Fat git, should lose a pound or two"), some very bad abdominal pain along with the trots (now subsided, possibly due to codeine). Lo and behold, all known side effects. Maybe I should volunteer for clinical trials because I always seem to get the side effects.

At least I can mention these two new drugs, should I look at the side effects first? LOL
