Finding a dr to over see low carb in south east

Type of diabetes
Type 2
My mum is type 2, on insulin and sugars aren't controlled. Still told to eat slow release carbs and low fat which makes things worse. They keep upping her meds.

I would like to find a dr who can over see her medication while trying LCHF. We live in Surrey.

Does anyone have any reccomendations

Hi Viks,

I can't recommend a specific doctor as I suspect that most will trot out the usual NHS diabetic treatment advice. You could always change the diet yourself, lots of low carb recipes on this site. Does your mum have a meter so that she can check her own blood glucose levels ? Very useful piece of equipment and necessary if she is on meds to lower her blood sugar. x

She does have a meter and checks 2/3 times a day. Was hoping there might be a dr, I'm worried she will hypo on LCHF while injecting insulin

And that's a very valid worry @viks

What are her blood sugars like at the moment? Does she count carbs?

Have you tried asking about a small/gradual reduction in her carbs?

Hi @viks

I'm tagging @Chook who successfully used LCHF while on insulin (and came off it), she may be able to give you some tips.

@Goonergal - Thanks for the tag. :)

@viks - Is your Mum very enthusiastic to coming off insulin because it is a long slow process which takes a lot of commitment and very frequent testing but it can be done. It helps if you have support from someone in her health care team - has as he tried approaching them to talk about it?

I can tell you what I did but, as it says in my signature, it might not be suitable for your Mum.
