Hi all,

Since diagnosis, I have really been looking after myself. I am excercising, eating low carb and lost now 56 pounds since January. My BG's are spot on with my last hba1c 5.5/

I have had to replace all my clothes (right down to my boxer shorts) and surprisingly my shoes as i seem to have gone from a size 11 to size 10. It's lovely.

I have however noticed today that one or two of my finger nails seem to be discolering and having a yellowey tint to them.

I have always been fussy of my hands and always keep my nails trimmed and filed. Could this be related to my diabetes perhaps or my change in diet.

Anyone any ideas?

Thanks

Carl

Hi Carl,

If you "google" yellow tint fingernails", there are some articles that suggest diabetes as a cause.

Hiya Catherine,

thanks for that, i have had a look and it seems this maybe the issue. I can't understand it though as my BG is really under control and i feel really well.

I am going to see the nurse next week so i will show her and see what she thinks. I am really self conscious of them. Its not that bad, but i have always looked after my finger nails and i found myself today hiding my hand when talking to people.

I am also having issues with some numbness so will get this checked out as well.

Keep well and thanks for the advice

Carl

My non-diabetic father has two yellow finger nails, his are caused by some sort of infection. He was given some stuff to brush on like finger nail varnish, the Doc told him that it could take up to two years to get rid of it. He also has a couple of yellow toe nails, he mist have picked up the infection on one his toes or fingers and infected the others while cutting his finger/toe nails.

I've heard of toe nails going black on diabetics but never yellow, hope yours is not caused by your diabetes.

Hiya,
Not sure whether it works but I remember seeing some stuff for clearing nail discolouration. Check out the toenail or manicure section in Boots :-)
