Finger test vs pathology

How close are the finger prick tests to pathology tests? I tested yesterday in the waiting room about 5 mins before my fasting blood test. I got a 5.3 which is MUCH better to the last year of 6.3 ( at pathology) but I am curious how accurate the finger prick tests are.

I did a finger prick test after my GTT that was accurate but that was hubbie's machine. I don;t want to get my hopes up re a good result yet but it might be an improvement ? Jen
 
Are you sure the 6.3 was a fasting BG because it might have been an HbA1c?

In any case, 95% of the time the true result will be within 15% of the meter reading,
