Fair enough it might be 'newbie' obsessive testing, but how do you stop your finger tips turning to Rhne Hide?

Trying to get a blood drop now is like the proverbial blood from a stone! (200 + BG testsin ten days)

Make sure you use the lowest setting on the lancing device so it's just enough to penetrate the skin and draw blood. Rotate using all your fingers and make sure you use the sides and not the tips, warming the finger up beforehand also helps to make the withdrawal of blood easier.

How old is your meter? I need to set my lancet to at least 3 to get enough blood for my Xceed but only 1 for the newer Freestyle Lite strips.

I never test on my fingers. I use the inside of my forearm. Many meter allow for this.

The reason that isn't recommended by either NICE or the meter manufacturers is because the readings from alternative sites are less reliable and may lag behind finger prick readings; in particular, it is not recommended when suspecting a hypo, something that is, of course, a much bigger concern for patients on insulin like the OP than yourself.

Sorry for the tone, I just have a problem with people casually telling me that it's fine to ignore my doctor's instructions.

i use my arms is well i think you need to test you self to see if there is a varience in test result as mine always come in close to each other i mine with in 0.2 mmol so im happy to do this ,plus it is so much less pain full.my dr is happy with me doing this also. :D

Arms are fine of general testing or pre-meal.. but as already said if you suspect hypo or rapidly changing blood glucose then use a finger..

Reference testing..

I test on average 10 - 15 times a day.. so that's not so much as you but still significant (given its over years).. I rotate the finger I use each test and use the inside and outside of each finger... if you have problems getting blood then wash your hands in warm water and hold your arm down for a few seconds before you squeeze for blood.
