I took 3x500mg at 8am this morning, and have just eaten lunch. Let's see how it goes... They've also put me on a new type of statin (I stopped taking Simvastatin over 6 months ago) called Rosuvastatin. Anyone else on this one?

wow i couldn't take 3 tablets together it would make me so anti-social and i would be called billy no mates :D

Hope you just fine

Hi patch
didn't your Doc/ DSN tell you to take one tablet with each main meal?

Nope - she told me I could take all 3 in the morning. This is great for me, I've had trouble in the past remembering to take 'em with each meal. Taking all my drugs first thing in the morning will be great for me.

I've already ordered a pill box with boxes for each day!

It may take a day or two to build up a head of steam

Bad analogy, sue... Bad analogy...

Hi Patch,

Are these the standard Glucophage or the long lasting Glucophage SR? If they are SR then their action lasts for 12 hours, so it makes little sense to take them all at once because that just means that for half of a 24 hour period your insulin is getting no help and your liver is not being discouraged from overproducing glucose during the night, which is when it generally does into overdrive for most of us!

Even if they are the standard version, it would still make sense to take one of them with the evening meal, just to put the brakes on your liver during the night.

i take 2 glucoghage and i glicklazide i was on 4 glucghage but suffered severe stomach probs i find not easy to takethem they are just slow release metformin howeverthet not bringing my bloods down they also cause me severe stomache probs hope they work for you they cause me stomache bloating and upset my ibs anyway good luck keep tryingvivkaroo xx

Hi Viv,

I think metformin of any kind is probably too much for someone with IBS.

Hi Dennis,
Yes, they are the Modified Release version. They only last for 12hrs? I specifically questioned the doctor if taking 3x500mg in the morning would work - she said that it absolutely would. I dunno - can I believe a word they say?!? :?

Hi Patch,

Yes, the standard version lasts for up to 6 hours, the SR version for up to 12 hours.

Hi Patch,

Like you im also on Glucophage SR and Rosuvastatin. I take 2 x 500mgs in the morning and 2 x 500mgs at night of the Glucophage SR and I take 10mgs of Rosuvaststin just before I go to bed. I was using Simvastatin but the side effects were causing me problems.
My Cholesterol has now come down to a more respectable 4.2 (was 6.7  ) and my blood sugars seem to be maintaining around the 5.7 - 6.3 mark, again which is a massive improvement on the 12's and upwards I was getting when first diagnosed.

My advice to you is to go back to your DSN and query the 3 x 500mgs in the morning, it does not seem right as has been stated by other members for nightime control. I often wonder who to listen to, and in all honesty i've had most of my fantastic advice from members on here rather than my Dr or Practise Nurse. The Diabetes team are still to contact me regarding my care and treatment.

Good luck and keep us all informed

Jimbo
