First follow up check prediabetes

Hello,

I'm due to go for a follow up blood test which will be the first test of my HBa1c. My Fasting blood sugar was 6.3 on a routine well woman appt in July. The doctor briefly mentioned borderline diabetes but since then I have read up a lot through this site and am better informed. I have been trying to keep to a low carb, higher fat diet but I probably need to lose more weight and do more exercise. I am thinking about going to see the GP before having the blood test appt... just to talk about what would happen if my HBa1c was in Type two range. I am feeling rather nervous. I have changed my diet quite drastically since July but fearful of the result. I hope I have made a difference and improved my chances of avoiding Type two so far but it is life long effort now. I don't see much change on the scales but ,my body shape has changed a bit - less of a spare tyre and people have remarked on my losing weight. I bought a glucose meter and check regularly. My levels are around 6 for fasting and fluctuate 2 hours after meals around 5-6.7.

I just need a bit of encouragement from you. I'm so thankful for this site.

Those numbers are great. You may even find that as you have already started to make some dietary changes your numbers may even be in the non diabetic range completely. Go and get your HbA1c test done and.then go from there. I have my T2 in remission and my last 2 Hb tests have been in the 30's but I still worry that it will creep up into the 40's.

Brilliant results. ... if you hv been following LCHF it can only be good results. U don't hv to fast for hba1c but they usually take a fasting blood glucose too. ... u might ask them to do your triglycerides profile and vitamin D. ..

Sounds like u will be fine x

Many thanks. I want to see what else they can check for whole I'm having blood taken.. Anaemia as I am female in perimenopause, thyroid and thanks for reminder re Vit D. I'll ask for blood lipids too as I have increased full fat in diet for energy.

I've seen a few times people suggesting vit D tests too. Is this just something to check or is there a higher correlation with the diabetes spectrum? I haven't gone back to gp yet after blood tests and there is no diagnosis for me (but it's clearly given me a scare whatever the results are and in the 4 weeks before that blood test I had started cutting carbs and extra exercise and had seen a big difference so it may not show up in just the FBG). But I've had chronically low vit D that triggered other deficiencies which triggers other deficiencies so it's been a big effort to try get it up (and it's summer here and still can't get vit D up) but wondering if there is a link. I hope not but I also hope that this change could help that.
