Hi everyone
Have just got my blood test results back having been diagnosed type 2 at end of April with an HbA1c of 90 mmol/mol .
Started on 1mg of Glimepiride for 2 months but after finger testing I was going too low down to 3.5 , so doctor put me on metformin 1000 slow release for last 2 and half months.
During this time I have been getting an average test of 5.7 , sometimes as low as 5.0 and others as high as 7.0 depending on what I eat but with an average of 5.7 I was expecting an HbA1c of about 34 .
I have also been low carbing with the expert advice from members here, not super Keto low but about 70 to 80 carbs per day average .
I know I could go lower carb but I do want to be able to enjoy a few things occasionally i used to eat .
Also I am on statins but my cholesterol level has come back at 2.5 so maybe I could knock them on head .also I have lost over 2 stone in weight which is a bonus.
Sorry for waffling on .
My HbA1c has come back as 40mmol/mol not bad down from 90 in a few months but was expecting lower with an average finger test of 5.7 so a little bit disappointed..
Not sure what other results mean so I will paste them with personal details removed any input will be much appreciated.

First off, good work!

Secondly as the hba1c is a 3month average it may still be on the way down. So your next one may yet be lower, if this one is being pushed up by slightly higher values a couple of months ago.

Generally they do a load of tests, kidney function, various protein levels etc. Largely if they are in the target range thats good news. If they were out of range it may suggest an issue with one thing or another

The thing other then hba1c that is good to know the values of is the lipid test which is cholesterol.

I will let some one else who is well into that particular topic but to me they look pretty low which is very good.

Sorry the only one that your Dr might talk a out is the gfr, that's basically your kidney health, it's just below toelerance but only a little. Quite oftern diabetics have some lower function in kidneys or liver, these can oftern repair over time once you get your bloods turn around. (I had damage to my liver which after 6 months fully recovered and back to normal. There isn't anything to be done apart from look after your self and keep your bloods in control

Upon diagnosis, my A1c was 14.5 (135) and took me a month to wean myself off sugar and starch and insulin.

At 3 months with no diabetic meds was at 6.1 (43). At 6 months based on continuous. monitor it would be lower but doctor said no need to run it. Now, will do so in 6 months.
