First Libre Help

Just applied my first libre sensor, and as per reading on this forum, I was going to wait a day or two before activating as I’ve read the first few days can be inaccurate otherwise

I have a couple of questions:

1) do I wait 24 or 48 hours
2) when ready to activate do I do this with the libre link app?
3) once activated with libre link, can I then use xdrip or Shuggah app for continuous readings?

I’ve never given them any longer than 6/8 or 12 hours to bed in? Purely due to convenience at time of change over. (Could be traveling?)

Unfortunately, we are all different. Some arms don't mind having a alien object inserted in them and find CGMs accurate from day 1. Some arms need a day to get "familiar" with their new buddy. Some arms need longer.
So, as unhelpful as it is, the best you can do is try it to find out what sort of arm you have.

2) when ready to activate do I do this with the libre link app?

Yes, when you have installed, started and registered on the LibreLink app, it will be clear that you need to swipe to activate the sensor.

3) once activated with libre link, can I then use xdrip or Shuggah app for continuous readings?

Yes you can use them for continuous readings once your sensor is activated.
I am not familiar with Shuggah but used xDrip for a few years.
xDrip is written and documented by techies for themselves. I found the instructions easy to follow but I am a techy. Judging by their facebook page, if you are not a techy, the instructions may appear less clear. If you intend to use it, I recommend installing it a setting it carefully. For the continuous readings, you will also need OOP2 and you will need to turn off the alerting on LibreLink because OOP2 and xDrip work by hijacking the Bluettoth signal that the LibreLink alerts use.
I don't usually use Libre (I self fund a CGM that communicates to my pump) but due to some self-inflicted supply issues, I had to temporarily revert to Libre. As I have a newish phone and not needed it, I have not installed xDrip. For 2 weeks, scanning my Libre has not been an issue.

I started yesterday and it was accurate to a point in the 6s. Today nothing but 8 -9s and never had that only when first diagnosed. Bit disheartening really as the finger pricks are in the 5-6 regions. My arm killed after and did bleed a bit. Might be why I am having higher readings due to the upset I dont know. Bit fed up to be honest. Bit worried about having anything to eat to be honest its got me that wound up! I am starving at the moment lol

I’m not a tech genius but I get on okay, at least if I can’t get the other apps working, I can just scan it.

You can’t go far wrong with Diabox? It can be calibrated too.

Thank you, I have just eaten but I am not going to test, I am leaving it until tomorrow. Feel like ripping the thing off, but I wont let it beat me!

@IBEX82 bear in mind these unofficial apps are rarely available from app stores - you will need to download them from things like github to install.

I personally attach a new sensor 2-6 hours prior to the current sensor ending. It just seems to have more consistent readings when started.

I had major issues with my S20+ when the OS was updated and I lost all the Libre 2 alarms on my phone. Abbott sent me detailed instructions on how to update the app and the procedure I needed to follow to make the alarms available on my phone again. This didn't work, and I was left for 2 weeks with no alarms, narrowly avoiding 2 night time hypos.

I have since started all my subsequent sensors using the reader, but still scan with my phone so as to keep the flow of data open to my diabetes specialists. So just be aware that if you start the sensor with your Samsung there may be a possibility that you will not be able to activate alarms.

I am 50 minutes away from starting a new sensor and I'm debating starting the new sensor with my phone, just to see if the "No alarms" issue has been fully resolved.

I'm reading with interest about Diabox. From the little I've read, do you need to start the sensor using Diabox?

Start the sensor with librelink.

Then scan sensor in Diabox. To pick up the BT signal. It will need the “hour” warm up. Then you should be up & running..

Edit, if you have an established sensor? You should be able to bypass this but the end date might be extended? I changed my phone a little while back & cloned the new one halfway through a sensor..

So I was impatient.. I gave it 6 hours and activated it. It’s currently reading about 2 mmol/l behind a finger prick (pricked then waited 20 mins to compare)

So maybe I have an awkward arm… we’ll see. I did get xdrip up and running though so I gave myself a pat on the back for that.

It seems to have settled overnight and is now within .5 or so of a fingerpick which I guess is basically the same allowing for the allowed variation.

Was so interesting to see my dawn phenomenon happen before my eyes

Mine went absolutely haywire but now seems to be settling dare I say it! Did an hour work out today and it said 9 before, I checked after and it was dropping to 7.3 which is pretty good for me. Just finger stabbed and bg was 6 and scanned Libre15 mins later for the lag and its 5.9 so fingers crossed its bedded in. Seems my dp lasts till lunch judging by the last couple of days. Will see tomorrow's DP to compare!!

I’m glad yours seems to have settled. Mine is consistent with finger pricks now but I am running a little higher than usual, no discernible reason why though maybe it’s just my body responding to its new invader

My DP was surprise.. climbed from around 4 until it got to about 6. Wish my liver would take it easy!

Yerp my dp definitely continues to lunchtime. Im not convinced the Libre is for me, think we may be parting company and divorcing at this rate its definitely unreasonable behaviour at the moment
