Good morning all,
Here we go on my first low-carb day, hopefully I can stick to less than 40g a day for quick weight loss!

B'fast - Porridge made with water -20g CHO

Lunch - Salad leaves with eggs, ham, brie and mozrella - Trace CHO

Dinner - Chicken brests wrapped in bacon with cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage - No CHO

Snack - 3 satsumas - 15g CHO

I would appriciate any comments on this as I do feel mt lunch is very decadent !

Thank you x

Your salad, cauliflower, cabbage and brocolli will have some carbs but not many. The satsumas may spike your BS. You need to test to find out how this lot affects you.

Ah, I didnt realise the veg would have carbs in ( dur !).
Other than that is it ok?

Thank you x

It looks great. One of the great things about low-carbing is the decadent lunches. I eat half a roasted chicken every lunchtime.

Personally I wouldn't waste carbs on porridge (or anything grain based), but you can't argue with <50g a day.

Good work.

Day one seems far to good to be true but its only day one !

Not sure what to hqve for breakfast as I take it to work - need to use my imagination more LOL

Thanks x

Norfolk is a bit of a long way for me to go just for meals... Nevertheless, you are now my personal chef. See you for lunch!

Hey Nicola

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but just saw you are Type 1 on insulin. As far as I know going to low carb may effect your carb ratio and thus how much insulin you need to inject. Nothing wrong with a Type 1 low carbing but perhaps a Type 1 would like to comment as above my level of knowledge.

I don't understand why you make porridge with water, still I don't understand why anyone woul eat porridge anyway. I personally loathe the stuff and it would spike me.
The rule I find easiest to stick to is only to eat stuff which can be eaten raw [even if I cook it like meat]
cereals CANNOT be eaten raw.

Sorry,
I BEG TO DIFFER,
Muesli is raw oatmeal and is most certainly eaten raw, although I don't eat it nowadays

You don't have to make it with just water, I use both milk & water as the milk gives it a creamy flavour and texture.

Porridge with water is lovely, mind you my lunch (as mentioned in my previous post) is blooming fantastic. Not sure if it will help with the weight loss though !!

Thanks for the advice on less insulin - I will keep a tight control on my BS x

I used to eat rolled oats raw, with milk, wouldn't have them any other way. Cant eat them now because I used to put golden syrup over them, they were yummy, ah the memories.

Hi, how is it going?

I am trying to reduce my carbs too but am really struggling with ideas for breakfast. I always reach for the cereals. I cannot eat sausage/bacon/sliced meats because I am intolerant to preservative in them (E250).

Low carb breakfast ideas would be gratefully appreciated. So far I am having around 100g per day. Is this low enough to start burning up fat stores do you think?

Hi Purpleya = For breakfast ideas, I used the "search" function at the top of the page in this forum. Lots of conversations and ideas.

I tend to have something egg based - poached are current favourite - small frying pan, water boils really quickly and egg is ready in the space of time it takes to make the tea! Also had scrambled a lot with a dash of dried taragon in them to keep it more interesting.

I also found something called Lizzie's granola which seems not to be spiking my sugars when I eat it with greek yoghurt.

From JMM.

Hi, try a mushroom omellette with cheese, but watch your sugar levels. They really affect mine. By the way this is included in a 25g per day diet by Tesco.

Best of luck

You LOSE a lot of ths benefits of lo-carbing if you "stock up" on carbs in the morning (porridge and cereal are the main culprits!).

You're better off spreading the 20g CHO from the porridge over the day with lo-ish carb foods...
