Whelks,winkles... All crustaceous seafood except prawns. Can't do crab.lobster or scallops.
Don't like the way they are killed and cooked. Save our Scallops. SOS !!!
Also HATE evaporated milk.
Afternoon all.

My Glucomen LX arrived thos morning and I thought I knew it all (as per usual) and used the lancet thingy and smeared the right end of the test strip ( at least I knew which was the right end...) and put it in the machine and got nothing.
I was hungry and wanted my breakfast but wanted a fasting reading so drank my water and read up a bit more and realised that you have to put the strip in first and 'feed' the blood from there. All went well and my fasting reading was 7.4.

Had brekkie which was a slice of burgen bread,a slice if ham,2 scrambled eggs,a small portion of low sugar baked beans and a cup of tea with milk and 1 spoon of sugar and over 2 hours later my reading is now 10.4.

I have yet to decipher what these readings mean but they seem a little high?

Looks like your fasting level was a little high - ideally you want it to be under 6
You've found out that the breakfast you had puts BMs up by 3 points, so it would be fine if your fasting level were in the 4s or 5s.
Starting on a 7 I'd omit the sugar beans and / or bread and see how much that raised your BMs. Once you have a good idea how much favourite meals raise your bm's then you can start to make choices based on your per-meal reading
Hope that makes sense

Hi, I would just like to add to other comments. You might like to see what reading you are going to bed at. Perhaps late evening wine and/or choccies, biscuits etc.? Dont' worry yourself about going to bed with a reading higher than you want, but you may get a clue as to what is happening. Also, any drugs you are on for emphysema etc? My fasting (morning) bG tends to be higher if I've had a higher reading in the evening.

Thanks for your input.

I have used 3 strips already and only have 7 left so have just bought these from E Bay.
My first DN meeting is Wednesday afternoon and I may not get a meter and as I like this one I will ask if there is any chance of a strip prescription.

I need to test my food and don't want to be hampered by dwindling strips....

Hoping I can get a prescription as I like this Glucomen XL meter. Prerty painless which pleases me.....

I will have another go with the Stevia sweeteners. They did taste rather bad.... But if it means my readings are better I am willing to forgo my sugar. After the first cup I normally keep on all day deinking about 6 cups.
I have replaced this with sparkling water and lemon and lime which is surprisingly nice. So I am saving about erm...200 calories? 40 cals per cup with semi skimmed milk and 1 sugar?

The thing I really need to do is start exercising. I got an exercise bike from Freegle about 6 months ago. I really nice one with a computerised readout etc and a nice WIDE seat which I need and I have been on it....

Once.

Nuff said.

I am type 2 and my doctor has retired, test strips and lancets were no problem.
My new doctor is refusing to give me test strips and lancets as I am type 2 still discussing this!
I have purchased the SD Codefree meter as the test strips for this machine is only £7 for box of 50.
The readings are the same as my One Touch Ultra 2 so I am happy with this.
That was the background.
If you have iPad or iPhone there is a great free App called 'My Fitness Pal' which I have just started to use and it is great for analysing what I am eating, for example I used to have three Dolce Gusto Cappachino lights BUT this was using up most of my sugar allocation it also monitors my Carbohydrate input and so I have cut down on the number of potatoes I have with my evening meal.
It you can please try this App it should help you a lot.

I analysed your breakfast and here are the results, if I woke up with a blood sugar of 7 then I would have say 2weetabix with one cup of tea (no Sugar)

Daily allowance. Your breakfast. 2 weetabix

Calories. 1070g. 738 g. 207g
Carbohydrates 271g. 46g. 34g
Fat. 68g. 19g. 5g
Protein. 74g. 54g. 10g
Sodium. 2500mg. 1048mg. 151mg
Sugar. 39g. 14g. 4g

Of course I do not know how active you are, I am retired and choose a sedatory lifestyle, and then activities, if I put in
Say 3 hours of gardening my daily allowance will increase.

Do I use my fitness pal all the time answer is no not every day but most days, if i have a takaway or go to a restaurant then i cannot accurately record the food so i do not bother that dat. but i used it for a month and learned what I can eat when first using it.
