Fixed my sleep problems !

Is Dr Gominak’s workbook worth the money? I’m convinced by her videos but had a sharp intake of breath at the cost of the workbook.

Yes, it ain't cheap.

The way I saw it I was so hacked off with poor sleep and feeling miserable I had made the decision to go through with it, and I figured I would do it right.
Plus I had some spare cash as for some strange reason I have found I haven't been going to pubs / restaurants or having holidays for the last year or so. Thought I'd invest some of that cash in my health.

Sure, you can wing it from watching all her videos and putting the pieces of information together but the workbook puts it all together in a step by step method, easy to follow and encourages you to work with it.

Out of interest I got a vitD test done

Picture attached..

So how should I interpret this and move forward

This calculator might help you figure out how much you need to supplement: https://www.grassrootshealth.net/project/dcalculator/

That’s very handy.. thank you

I guess I can see why regular test is required because the dose recommended for me is quite high.. in fact double the amount recommended on most of the supplements.

And the loading dose… hmm

Still I’m willing to try.. if it fixes my sleep issues then it’s worth anything as I’ve not had a decent sleep in 20+ years

The ‘recommended’ doses are pretty low and the NHS free doses given out during COVID woeful. I’ve been supplementing 4,000 iu daily for a few years and now have a good level (168). Adding in the B50 now as sleep needs to improve.

I had a starting level of 46.

From memory I took 16000 IU's per day for the first month, then 14000 a day for the second month which got me up to 195 then I reckoned on 4000 units a day for the 3rd month to keep me level, but i found I'd dropped to 115 a month later, so I've upped it to 5000 IU's per day as obviously 4000 a day was not enough to keep me level.
Will be sending another test in at the end of the month to see where I'm at now.

However, according to Dr Gominak, you need to be over 100 nmol/L to keep my (now corrected) gut bugs happy, but the sweet spot for best sleep (where repairs are done) is between 150 and 200. I did find that my sleep quality improvements stalled for about 3 weeks around my 115 nmol/L reading but they've picked up again since going to 5000 IU's of D per day and I'm sleeping really well every night, except the odd time when high or low BG's screw it up regardless. Now that we have some (occasional) sun I'm grabbing whatever free D when I can, short sleeves & shorts out in the garden. Supposedly, depending on which expert you listen to, sun on your skin won't take you above 200 nmol/L.

But - it's different for everyone so please don't base your doses on what I've taken !
The rightsleep workbook has guide tables to work out your doses as you load up but they seem to assume you get your results back within a few days then you make your changes accordingly.

The problem I'm having with calculating doses is the amount of delay in getting the results back. The last one took 3 weeks from posting to getting my results email. They apologised and said they had a large backlog owing to the covid pandemic and sudden interest in vit D. So it's partly going from the guide, and partly guesswork on my part.

Searly - Out of interest how long did it take to get your result back ?

There's a new video recently posted -

Cheers- Dave.

I just had my first test done and had the results 4 days after posting so hopefully it will get quicker for you

Everybody is different

Yes it was just a surprise how much the calculation said I needed in relation to what a lot of the RDA’s say

But I’m happy to try and test for a few months.

If it fixed my sleep it was worth it.. if it doesn’t I just have to calculate the cost/benefit and decude

Thanks for letting me know, that's encouraging.

Yes, it's doesn't help that it's all in 1000 unit "blocks" - it makes it sound a huge amount.

I'm happy I went with it, loving the extra sleep and not feeling grumpy during the day. If I get any other health benefits then that will be the icing on the cake.

Well I got my D results back within 5 days this time so looks like they've got their issues sorted at the lab :)

But the bad news is that I was expecting to be higher, but in fact I've dropped from 115 to 102 over the last 2 months, 5000 IU's per day plus sensible sun exposure isn't enough to even keep me level, so I've had a look at that vitamin D calculator - https://www.grassrootshealth.net/project/dcalculator/ and I will try the values it suggests, 25,000 IU's for 9 days then 10,000 per day maintenance dose and then I'll get my levels checked again at the end of the month.

Still sleeping well though.... :) but glad I got the levels checked before they dropped below 100.
