Interesting - but your body can only repair itself with whatever "building blocks" it has at hand...

I thought it was common knowledge that much of the damage to organs as a result of diabetes, is a consequence of damage of the small blood vessels to/within these organs. Damage to small blood vessels can damage nerves, the retina, the kidneys, the main complications we hear talked about.
