I am totally low carbing, I take 1 Dapagliflozin daily but still struggle to keep my BG under 7, today I had a roast turkey dinner no potato, no Yorkshire just meat and veg and about a tablespoon of thin gravy, two hours later my blood test was 8.8 once again I was so disappointed, but before testing I had drunk half a glass of no added sugar pineapple and grapefruit Sainsburys fizzy , wondered if this has affected the reading , so I waited an hour drank some more...tested and it was 9.5, so I'm figuring this drink is a no no, do you think I'm right and is there a fizzy drink that should be okay, I've given up so much I want to drink something fizzy

Try sparkling water or Diet coke. Occasionally I add a tablespoon of sugar free lemon squash to a glass of sparkling water but mainly I just have the water chilled.

Well, you could try adding a slice of lemon to some bottled fizzy water?

You could always try things like diet coke. As a T1 I'd be confident about it not sending my blood sugar up, but I've heard mixed reviews about the advisability of more than an occasional one....

I like the low cals drinks in Greggs - same recipe/factory as M&S but a bit cheaper. When out I will have soda water and a slice of lime that I then squeeze into the soda - usually free too which is always a bonus!

Fizzy is fine, it's the fruit juice that is the culprit. It may have no added sugar but it still has the fruit sugars. We diabetics on insulin regularly use fruit juice to treat a low blood sugar because it works just as well as using glucose tabs... Have you checked the carb content at the back of the can?

I play around with fizzy water, adding fresh lemon sliced, cucumber, ginger root etc, it's not the same as a sugar hit, but it's very refreshing.

I'm guessing you may have had a reaction to the unnatural soup in that particular beverage

INGREDIENTS:Carbonated Water, Pineapple Juice from Concentrate (2.5%), Grapefruit Juice from Concentrate (2.5%), Acid:Citric Acid; Flavourings, Sweeteners:Acesulfame K, Sucralose; Preservatives:Potassium Sorbate, Dimethyl Dicarbonate; Acidity Regulator:Trisodium Citrate; Stabilisers:Acacia Gum, Glycerol Esters of Wood Rosins; Antioxidant:Ascorbic Acid; Vegetable Oils:Coconut Oil, Rapeseed Oil; Colour:Carotenes.

Although it appears to have a low carb count it looks like your body doesn't like it.
Maybe some sparkling water with a squeeze of lime juice in it as an alternative?

Good job with the testing! Testing showed you exactly what that fizzy did to your levels, well done. Now it is just deciding (after testing, of course) which alternatives you can choose from.

That's basically carbonated water and chemicals ! :wideyed:

But it tastes good:) you would think at my age I'd read a list of ingredients, looking at these I'm horrified....another lesson learned
Yes I agree those drinks do taste good, it took me a very long time to manage without them, so you're not alone. :)
