Ususally im given the dark blue box of metformin 500mg and have no problems. Middle of January when i got a top up of my pills I was given Flamingo film coated ones. I've noticed since I've been on them my sugars have been constantly high. I've not changed my diet( if anything eating and drinking better, so should be good or low levels) im not missing tablets or my injection once a week. But it isn't going below 20 when i check my readings.

Has anyone else had these tablets or any issue with them? Im thinking to go back to the pharmacy as when I googled the brand it says slow release which Im not on. And wondering if thats the reasons my sugars aren't at their normal levels which ususally on my old brand of tablets was rarely over 9.

I'd really appreciate some advice. Thank you

Hi @Jamie10968 , regardless of the cause of your sudden high numbers, being in the 20s constantly is dangerously high.

Please call 111 for advice today.

A change of brand of metformin is unlikely to cause such a change in blood glucose. Have other things changed? What dietary changes did you make, have you been given steroids, can it be you have some infection or other?

Very cold weather can increase BGS levels - I live in the Scottish highlands and my average BS levels are up from 7 to 9 mmol/l.

As you probably know, metformin has zero impact on whatever carbohydrate you eat. What it does is to increase insulin action and slow down your liver making glucose itself. This usually means a relatively small variation in blood glucose levels.

The level of change you're reporting is quite different, and as said above, the levels are high and need to be looked at. We can't diagnose on here but if I was getting those sorts of results, particularly if I couldn't explain them, I'd be looking for urgent medical advice.
