Flying and insulin

Hi I'm a type 2 taking insulin, and will be taking my insulin abroad for the first time. I've noticed on some of the travel websites that they only allow you to take vials of insulin of up to 100 ml, I take Levimir and the pens come in 100 u/ml - will I still be able to take them with me & should they be stored in my hand luggage? I've asked the doc for a letter (£5 charge!).

Thanks to anyone with advice...

when i went abroad i took my insulin pens also 100ml. so they should be fine. you should also take it in your hand luggage as where your luggage is stored the temperature isn't suitable for insulin.

If your travelling with somebody it's a good idea to split your medical supplies in half and give them to someone incase something happens to your hand luggage just to be on the safe side.

I would ask your diabetes nurse or specialist for one next time, most do em for free! but £5 is on the cheap side from what i've heard before! :lol:

Also good idea to take a copy of your prescription incase you run out of something or lose it then you can have a clear statement of what you use.

I agree,that it is a good idea to get a Doctors letter. I have never let Insulin to be taken away by cabin staff,it could be lost or stored incorrectly and have a disasterous effect on your holiday.
I also use Frio Cooling Products to store insulin at the correct temperture,check them out on line.
A first class product.
