flying with insulin and needles

Hi, I'm sure if I was thorough enough in my search this has been talked about before, but I'll just go ahead and ask! Since my last flight I've started needing insulin and am starting to think about what I'll need to do to fly to Australia and back later in the year. As it stands at the moment I'll only need to give myself one injection during the flight, but will definitely have to give it.
What does one need to do to ensure there are no hassles in getting through the security checks? I need to go from Frankfurt to Sydney via Singapore (probably!). I can get a letter in German from my doctor here, and have a Diabetes card from Australia which I believe is sufficient to justify my supplies coming back, but what about Singapore? Has anyone had any problems or have any advice? From all I read, Heathrow is on of the most security conscious of all so the UK experience probably applies to other places as well.
thanks in anticipation!

Boris, Dennis's answer in 'diabetes aint so bad!!please read' probably covers it.I would contact you airline and check just what doc-u-ments they require and if there are different requirements in the countries you will be passing through.

Knowledge is the key to control

thank Sue, yep have found that info from Dennis. Still keen to hear anybody's specific personal experiences too, I'd be anxious at the best of times but being in a multi lingual situation (the letter I can get from my doctor will be in German) adds a bit of extra stress!

I flew to London Gatwick from glasgow last year right in the middle of all of the increased security nonsense (few weeks after Glasgow airport 'incident'). I was a little worried about the first flight (i.e. Glasgow-Gatwick) as I had never flown being diabetic before.

I told the lady at the easyjet desk that I was diabetic and she looked at me as if to say "why are you telling me?"

Long story short and all that - I had absolutely no problems, I put my pens in my ziplock bag with my other toiletries. They were more bothered about my shoes and kept making me take them off! (No idea why my shoes were so special)

thanks Lesley, thats a reassuring story! I also had my shoes xrayed and examined a few times on my last trip to Oz, apparently some shoes have bands of metal in the sole to reinforce the rubber and it all looks a bit suss in the initial screening, therefore they go overboard on the checks. So far I've found Franfurt the most vigilant, they look into everything in the bag and poke around a lot. Singapore are also full on but don't seem as enthusiastic about going further than the xray machines.
