Followers and following

Could the forum have the same limit placed on 'following' as it does for PM - you can't PM until you've reached a certain level of posts or something like that? @Administrator ? (Now I have himtoo following me, how do I stop him? (before I lead him astray!) - although I'm happy to have him follow me it was just meant as a 'testing' exercise. )

now that you have led me on a 5 mile walk i am tired so have stopped following you
( dog walking reference ):D

I think it's a horrible, creepy feature that has no place on a forum like this. If we are interested in what a particular person posts - which is why I assume the feature is incorporated - then why can't we just click on their profile and just check their posts?
Whether someone is following you or clicking on your profile to see your posts is no difference really it's just down to interpretation.

I mean the site is used for information and support, there's really no personal information stored on here for people to attain unless the person following has put this in one of their posts.

I understand some people may find it strange/creepy I don't not on here but that's my opinion hahaha...

I just don't think it's giving anything away in particular that isn't already available by other means on the site

Maybe this is just me but I tend to respond to post that a lot of the same people respond too. So it may make sense to follow these people not because who they are but to the threads they respond too. Rather than scroll through tons of threads

I also think you make a decision on who a person is based on their posts,
Reading a typed message only has your emotion in it not the person who typed it.
So you could say followers like the way come across in posts

I take on board what everyone is saying, but it's just how I feel about it. I know it's public viewing and if somebody wanted to view my previous posts that's fine but the idea of somebody being alerted to everything I write just creeps me out somehow. Following feels almost stalker-ish. But that's just me being me:D

I still don't get this thing with following. A member of the DCUK staff decided to follow me and when I discovered this I decided to follow him. Still don't know what the following thing is about. I haven't been banned again, I get no notices when he's on line or what he's posted. I'll soon get bored with this following thing and by the way, there are a few following me but I don't get any notifications there either. But then my profile is open.

The only time I've noticed this feature working is if I've accidentally clicked on the "My News Feed" button that used to be on the main list of options, but now takes an extra step to find. Then I'd get posts from people I'm following show up. Other than that, it seems pretty useless to me.

What I find really scary is one of the mods following me. I don't know why so I'm still scared as to what I am doing wrong. I don't mind if it's people who I've either tried to help or who have tried to help me but a mod? I think I would have liked a reason why they are following me.

I agree. I have been put off posting sometimes because a mod is following me. I could say more but won't, I don't like being in the naughty corner.

I have to confess I use follow for the enjoyment of my news feed. I visit it everyday. I follow people who I'm interested in for either progress or I feel has knowledge I need. Hope I don't offend anyone.
We all have members who are or have walked the same mile?

I never think to look at newsfeed. I guess that could be a useful feature.

Is newsfeed visible to all, or just the individual member?

I can't see your newsfeed just like you can't see my newsfeed

Feature just filters what is interesting to you

Obviously somethings will be the same because maybe you like the same as me
