Following on from FSL 'FUDGE' IN PMQ...R4 TODAY

D UK and an FSL using (self funding) type 1 from Camden appeared at around 7 am today 19/10 to discuss why FSL isn't really available on the NHS.
I do not think the general public will be any the wiser and it is hard to understand why in theory we can have FSL but in practice most of us can't and some of us will never have it unless we pay for it or move to Wales...
There was a good stats puzzle straight after it though...if 2 friends watch out for shooting stars with 90% chance of seeing one in an hour, how many will they see if they only stay out for 10 minutes?
 
One, because having seen one they would prefer to come inside and talk over a cup of coffee in the warm.

If it gets the story in the news it's good. May gave a very bad answer, it would have been better for her to have agreed that CCGs needed to move faster, but by trying to use her usual dodge the question, obfuscate, and fudge methods, she has made it more of a story, not less.

Which is amusing.

It's a technicality, they can say that it's available on the NHS without lying, because it is. By being economic with the truth and not telling the rest of the story, in this case the fact that the CCG's reluctance to provide the funding for everyone who would like it, they get away with it.

I have several first cousins in the Swansea Valley who are type II. Whatever one might read about prescriptions in Wales, for my cousins at least, you'll be lucky to get a prescription for test strips or an HbA1c more than once a year. It's scandalous to tell patients they don't have to test and then only provide an HbA1c once a year, something that only reflects the previous 8 - 12 weeks anyway.

I don't think we complain enough, that's part of the problem. Perhaps organisation like Diabetes UK, and Diabetes.co.uk should put some effort in making sure that the NHS provided proper support for diabetic patients. Seems that if you're a smoker you can get all the help in the world.
 

Maybe she doesn't know that in most places they are not available. Or does she know
 
It is a shame the questioner didn't mention that CGMs are reluctant to prescribe it and how much of a post code lottery it is - not only a postcode lottery but also stiff criteria before the "more generous" CGMs will prescribe it. She was asked a specific question and she answered it truthfully. Had the question been different it would be interesting to see what she said.
 
Central governmentdetermines the amount of ££££ available to the Dept of health, which then determines how this money is allocated to the different area health economies before it is further divided between different Trusts, CCGs, service priorities etc
The money is never enough to cover all of our health needs / demands as central Govt well know, whatever their ideologically driven fantasies that cuts will produce savings at the same time as improving saervice standards / efficacy.
If the Prime minister is unaware of the funding crisis in health then shes living in a parallel universe where magical thinking rules the day.

She does not know ! She gets told stuff from the top directors - like a new reception area that costs millions is more important than the AnE using corridors as waiting areas. Then they say the private franchisees in the new reception will serve fresh coffee- and make fragile rock builders happy. anyone for coffee

I think you are being very unfair on unicorns. They are creatures of beauty and do not deserve to be associated with politics
