Hi guys
Some of you may remember I was diagnosed last week with diabetes. Since then I've cut out alot of carbs. I'm eating fresh fish cod, salmon, haddock. Sweet potatoes. ..omelettes....I stood for an hour in tesco the other day looking for bread that is ok for me too eat....can anyone advise?....

Also now I feel I'm eating a bit better I dont feel as bloated. I've got nice butter....0.7 carbs I guess is good butter?...I miss having toast in the mornings. Which is why I ask about bread.

Thanks

Hi stuart southby, glad your getting the hang of things, i very rarely buy 100% rye bread, a slice of that is approx 7 g of carb, you could try and see if it spikes you, clive

Lots of people use either Burgen soya and linseed bread, LivLife low-carb bread (from Morrisons) or the low protein rolls from Lidl. Unfortunately I can't seem to have any bread apart from half a Lidl roll without spiking my blood sugars. It was trial and error, trying some, testing two hours later. The highest spike I've had was with some spelt bread from the organic artisan bakers - even though they said it was sugar free. Two hours later my reading was 16!

Not many.
Waitrose also sell the LivLife loaf, only 3.8 carbs a slice, so good to find bread you can actually eat without a spike. The high protein ones from Lidl are baked instore, only 39p and much bigger than most rolls, half is plenty !

We picked up 84(!) high protein rolls from Lidl this morning, after my wife was told they were stopping them and panicked (apparently they're not stopping them...) We've had a chest freezer donated to us and they are now sitting in there.. They are lovely as a toast substitute. Slice in half and toast in a toaster, then use however you would a slice of toast (for scrambled eggs, or marmite or peanut butter). Really fits the bill for toast cravings. They are lower carb than LivLife, and much much cheaper.

maybe try a bakers?
Hiya. Unfortunately I can't use our local baker. There's no demand for low-carb from a shop specialising in high-carb. In fact I can't even see how much salt he puts in his bread. His granary and walnut loaves are awesome though -- Mrs DeeJay has them.
I'm going near a Lidl next week. I think that's the answer.

Hi I don't seem to be able to resist a couple of pieces of toast in the morning after my Shredded Wheat. I get up early in the morning
with the good intention of making an omelette or some other recommended tasty breakfast. But by the time I have tested my bloods etc it is time to drive an hour to work. Being Type 1 and trying to adjust dosage v Carbs has become a "second job" but we all have to do what we have to do to stay healthy.
