Food Diary

Well mine works for me,LJ, my BS in the morning is around 5.7--6.7 so it's working for me.However it will not work for everyone.Now if someone decides to try mine and it works for them----result!!If it doesn't then they have a little bit more knowledge about what to avoid.I wish I'd had this site when I first started,it was all trail and error and not a lot of help from anyone.Factor in catering for carb loving carnivorous husband and you see the difficulties!!If just one person finds help from the food diaries then it is worth the effort.

Knowledge is the key to control

Absolutely - I think it's a really good idea.

I guess all I meant was that the people who are posting their diaries aren't necessarily sharing whether it works for them or not.

As you say, it's all very individual and definitely comes down to trial and error!

Okay, here is a sample of my food diary. I am including my sins.

Breakfast:

One Weetabix with linseed, sunflower seeds and pine nuts, Total 0% yoghurt and stewed fruit
OR
scrambled egg (made in microwave) on wholemeal toast:
OR
stewed mushrooms, grilled bacon and poached egg.

Supplements: one multivitamin and mineral tab, 1000 mg cod liver oil, 1000 mg evening primrose oil, co-enzyme Q10, 1000 mg glucosamine.

One cup green tea with cinnamon, one glass warm water with lemon juice.

Lunch;

Tuna and pasta salad with steamed spinach:
steamed salmon fillet with mixed green leaf salad and cucumber:
Ham and steamed mushrooms in pitta bread with vegetables

Dinner:

Savory beef mince (dry fried in a wok) with spinach, other vegetables and brown rice:
Poached chicken breast with savoury couscous or quinona with spring greens and asparagus:
Poached cod in milk and water with new potatoes, peas and seared lettuce
Pork slices with applesauce, mint and pea risotto.

Snacks:

One apple:
Two small plums:
Weetabix and stewed fruit;
half a banana.

With dinner - a glass of white wine ( red gives me a migraine, which is a real shame. I love it)
or half a can of lager (we share)

Before bed:

half a slice of wholemeal toast with marmite ( no butter) and a nip of whisky - that's one pub measure.

portion sizes are as recommended, or slightly reduced except the veggies and salad.

PS - If I've had wine with dinner, NO scotch before bed.
Pasata is wholemeal. Rice is brown. Breads are wholemeal.
All meals homecooked from the ground up. No salt in cooking, no salt on finished article.

I am new to Diabetes and had wondered how others planned their food menus. Been looking through what you all have written and will try them out. So thanks for ideas.

Welcome to the forum cyndi.Do you have a test monitor? remember to test before and 2 hours after eating to gauge if the foods are having an effect on your blood sugars.All the dairies you see here work for the individual but we are all different and sometimes a food that has no effect on one person makes another's blood sugars shoot up.happy testing and menu planning.
