From what I've read on this forum over the last couple of years I have formed the opinion that different foods can affect different people in different ways with respect to BG levels.

Having started to use my FreeStyle Libre (why did I wait so long after purchase?) I've been trying to find ways of preventing liver dumps which seem to take my BG up almost as soon as I go to sleep. I stumbled across a website that talks about optimising nutrition and one of the things they have is a list of Insulin Indexes for different foods.

Apologies if it's "old hat", but I thought it was interesting: https://optimisingnutrition.com/2015/03/23/most-ketogenic-diet-foods/

Some good links as well.

Something that might be related to my BG rising as soon as I go to sleep (and start shallow breathing) is BG falling when I breath oxygen. I am now 2/3 of the way through Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. Mainly of use for MS patients but it also aids the healing process. I'm using it to help with Brain Fog and muscle pain possibly caused by a break in the Kreb cycle where I'm not producing enough ATP (or is it ADP), possibly something to do with low levels of CoQ10. When researching HbOT I came across several stories of patients avoiding amputations because ulcers and infections had "cleared up" more rapidly with HbOT. Sports people use it to speed up recovery and to train at higher levels. Whenever I start to breath oxygen my BG drops, for example on Friday at 10:00 it dropped from 12 (despite no food since 19:30 previous night and only small pot of low fat/no added sugar yoghurt for breakfast) to 9, then went back up to 10.5 after I stopped breathing oxygen.

Next week's sessions will be at higher pressure, equivalent to 33ft underwater, so we'll see if the pressure makes any difference.

Marty Kendall is a great source of info. I'm a big fan of optimising nutrition

Very interesting.
As when I'm panting due to breathlessness I though I must be using more energy, hence better bgs lately.
However this theory could be why.
I've been told my oxygen levels are very good 98/100 in hospital but that's because I'm panting constantly when I have a flare up! My flare up causes chest pains so a&e I go.
Walking or any exertion is giving me breathlessness. Rest is just very very mild breathlessness but flare ups are panting to breath in rest.
Breathlessness is giving me better bgs? I've been thinking metformin?
You could be right.

well interesting and takes food to a totally other angle in planing what to eat...

oh how complicated it actually is..:arghh::bored::shy::mask::watching::link::shifty:

The whole premise for the success of lchf vs lchp for T2D lies with the fact that carbs and protein are more insulinogenic than dietary fats. And we are to reduce the insulin load on the remaining functional beta cells.

The fact that we may also have insulin resistance and impaired glucose uptake in our brain explains the brain fog and memory lapse that is common among T2D. At least until ketosis ramps up the ketones production to provide sufficient ketones for our brain. Hence it may be worth considering MCT oil or Virgin coconut oil during the transition from high carbs to low carbs.
