Hi guys

I'm new to the forum , been diabetic since last January , been having a few problem weight wise went to the PACE meetings where i was given a chart which just shows a plate divided into sections supposedly to give you an idea as to portion control and how much to each food item to cover part of the plate , that doesnt work for me, anybody know where i can find a (detailed chart )showing weight for individual food items, and showing (how many calories) each item is likely to contain. thanks in advance for any info

kind regards MARTIN

Hi martin, welcome to the forum.Ever thought about getting some of theses scales that not only weigh food but also tell you how much is in the food.I have scale like that very handy, only bugbear is trying to find the code in the book for that particular food!

Hi sugarless sue.

thanks for such a quick reply, not sure what you mean? what is the name of the scales? , i get the idea how they work , I also need to know how much of any individual food i can eat and lose weight without starving myself .

KINFD REGARDS martin

Hi sarahq

now that's confused me even more , carbs/ calories what = what if I'm weighing something to eat how do i find out how calories or carbs it contains how calories a day or how many carbs a day ???

Hi all

it not a case of eating to much, its a case of being able to lose weight which i have been unable to do from the charts and diagrams that i was given from pace from when i was diagnosed as a diabetic , I was placed on a 1500 Cal's a day diet to lose weight supposedly but there charts are just a generalisation of what your supposed to do as i said earlier a picture of a plate divided into section and then your left to try portion control from that for your self . I just wanted to know if i weighed my food how to tell from what i was weighing how many calories it would contain, to try and get a better understanding of how much was a correct portion control size, then carbs got mentioned and i wanted to know how many carbs a day etc that s all .

Suggest you use a side plate rather than a dinner plate :D

I would recommend rosemary connelly scales. I got mine from diabetic team they tried out several on the market and found these the best. They buy them in bulk so they are a bit cheaper, but I think you can buy them off Rosemary Connelly web site. They are really simple to use. All the schools canteens in my area have them so they can measuring carb content of school meals.

Hope this helps
