I had my first phone contact with the GP Practice nurse about my diabetes today, I made notes as there was a lot to take in.
She asked how my feet were and I said fine and she explained that I would get a review with a foot care check in 6 weeks following my next blood test. It was also explained that I should contact her if there are any issues with my feet and that I shouldn't be bare foot.
Aaagh, after the call I realised a patch of eczema (with possible fungal infection) had flared up again on the top of one foot. I just walked upstairs and realised one of my little toes felt weird. On inspection, there is a blister underneath it. Not 100% sure but the sensation touching the toe is different to the others. I'm going to wash, dry, moisturise and apply eczema cream as needed before bed. I'm thinking I should put a call out to the nurse tomorrow. I was only diagnosed 4 days ago, this feels surreal. I have been getting itching on my right hand and lips so I realise changes are happening.
Any thoughts please.

One of the problems with elevated blood sugars is damage to the nerves in the feet which can lead to neuropahthy and not feeling when feet get damaged.
You said that you felt your toe was weird so looks like you have the feeling ok at the moment. Might be worth keeping an eye on things but as blood sugars become more controlled it's normal that feeling returns (if it has gone in the first place). Personally I spend most of the day barefoot around the house and outside and have never had any foot problems.

Thanks, reassuring to hear.

For me, I had no problems with my feet that I noticed at diagnosis. I was able to quickly lower my blood sugar levels back in to the normal range. About 6 weeks in, my feet became almost like too sensitive. I'm well over a year in, and they still bother me at times. I feel everything. Even a blade of grass in my shoe. I guess that beats the alternative, but my feet have a burning feeling at times. It does seem to get slightly better as time goes by.

Thanks for your message. My BS is declining rapidly, I am v low carb now. It is good to hear of your success, well done. I'll just keep aware of the feet.
