Foot on the Floor glucose spikes

I’ve just seen my consultant and since having the freestyle libre have been told I have Foot on the Floor in that my glucose spikes for no reason as soon as I wake. To counter it I have been told to take one unit of Novorapid when I wake which seems to be working. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yep!
I think it is often grouped in with Dawn Phenomenon although DP is often the liver dump to prepare you for the day this is when our bodies take a little longer to realise it "needs" to do a liver dump.

Edited to comment on the comment that your glucose is spiking for no reason. I disagree with the "no reason", your liver is releasing glucose because your body has noticed you doing something (getting up) which needs more energy. This is the same as when we start exercising or when we start a stressful meeting.

@EllieJ13 . Welcome to the forum.
Yes, feet on floor is a common problem.
Saturday is the only day of the week I don’t eat within 40 mins of getting out of bed. If I don’t have a shot of Novorapid my sugars will start to rise.
Do you do breakfast or do you wait until later in the day before you eat?

I always do breakfast- my spike comes literally as I get out of bed!!!

Yup, every work day, and occasionally on rest days. My alarm goes off half an hour before I actually plan to get up so I can take my thyroxine before I have my first bucket of coffee, and I take a bolus to stop it happening (my pump deals with the very reliable DP as I’ve set it as part of my basal programme). I worked out a sort of sliding scale of how much to take, even if I’m in the 4s I need a bit. On rest days I have to watch for the start of any rise, I’ve gone hypo trying to preempt it before now!
