Foot problem on holiday....what to do...

@AndBreathe ....as @Squire Fulwood suggested it was his shoes (pair of crocs) that were the culprit...worn without socks and sweaty / moving around...have suggested he wears the flip flops instead for a while to allow spot to heal....not ideal I guess but no real alternative...
...will check out details in reps book just in case in hope that it is not needed....unfortunately it will fall to me to be checking on his feet as he can't bend them round to see himself..
!

How come he can't see the soles of his own feet? It's not that difficult? Putting your right foot on your left thigh?

Then there are mirrors if mobility is really bad. Make him look. It's his foot.

That's quite a sweeping statement, and so completely off the mark.
So everyone should be as limber as you are?

A bit like me saying everyone should be as active as me.

(I can't see the soles of my feet by the way, after getting over the slightly less flexible hips and knees, contending with the balance, and switching from the long distance to reading glasses, I do have a bad tendency to fall onto my face at some point in the saga.)

And right foot on left thigh! I just tried that, my eyes would need to be way past my left elbow, then keep going!

As an update....have not really looked at it today though I think blister has burst and is now weepy...think it must have been like that in night as small stain on bedsheets...he is wearing different shoes now (flip flops)....despite my warnings he refuses to do anything about it or cover it so am going to leave him to it...
....think it is time for me to adopt 'head in sand' position and get on with enjoying my holiday.....may just post any worries or concerns here to get them out of my head....

...on a positive note and on the subject of burying things in sand....went last night to see baby turtles that were hatching and saw them excavated from their nests under the sand...a local conservation project helps to protect them and then release them into the sea..

..am determined to take this back as a positive from my holiday rather than worry about some foot problem....

Any open wound on the foot, particularly the sole of the foot should be covered for day to day activity, due to it's proximity to the floor/ground and all that lurks there. The Compeed blister pads are extremely comfortable and absorb all the blister fluid, whilst in situ. When I have had to use them, I am always astonished how well the underlying skin has healed in the time it is covered.

Once the plaster is on, he wouldn't feel it and being almost transparent it's not unsightly.

MrB struggles to fully see the soles of his feet, unless he bends his knee and looks behind his back. MrB is a healthy, slim, fit little man. Apparently, he's just never been very supple.

See a physiotherapist maybe? Weren't you told to look over your feet daily? I thought foot care was vital, or at least I was told this at diagnosis. Even my mum did daily foot checks until she turned 89.

It's easier if you sit on a chair, you don't have to stand up when feet checking.

And use a mirror if needed.

Let's hope he never gets diabetes then!

Nope,my feet are fine.
Abrasions, sand, stones, blisters, chaffing, I'm good.
But, even with the yoga and tai chi, the bottom of my feet will always be somewhere I will never be seeing.

He manages to cut his own toenails and wash and thoroughly dry his feet. It's just the twist and flex he finds difficult. He'd be very grumpy if he were diagnosed as diabetic, but he'd just have to get on with it, like the rest of us.

I hope he knows how lucky he is to have someone as sympathetic as me on his case. ;)

Dry your feet.
Now, I must admit, I have read about that.
I guess, we all do what we actually need to.
If we don't need to, as you say, we just get on with it.
No biggie.

I do find this foot thing intriguing and in order not to derail @Molly56 s thread further I have started a new thread on the foot check topic.

Older age maybe! I can no longer do that easily now... I was pretty flexible when I was young, but as I've got older things no longer work as well as they used to. It can end up in bit of a vicious circle.

I have trouble seeing some of the outside edge of my feet, after quitting Pilates. However, mobile phones and Kindles with video mean that you can video your feet (practice makes perfect with focus) stop then play back. You could even email it to an HCP if required

I would photograph it for him .. then at least he can see it for himself .. then its up to him what he wants to do about it.. but if he wants you to play nurse with bandaging or plasters then be ready as you always are to help him. If he's wanting no help and he's seen it via the photo then stand back an just enjoy your holiday .. if you can get a voice recording of him telling you he's not wanting help even better .. as you know if it becomes really infected .. you can prove he refused help from you.

@Enclave ...took photo on iPad yesterday to show him...also to monitor progress for any improvement or deterioration over the next few days / week before we get home (bit gruesome to share on here)....did remind him he needs to keep it clean and covered but he seems to think it will be ok.....have done my bit for now so concentrating on enjoying my holiday...took a lone walk into local town this morning and planning a relaxing afternoon...and perhaps a stroll along the beach later whilst he is resting before dinner...
...as for bandages and plasters will worry where I get them from if he decides he needs them...no point wasting time getting them for now...

As @SunnyExpat says ...it is the inflexibility in arthritic knees and hips that are probably the issue in looking at feet...with that and being overweight he just can't bend them up to a position to see them....
..and as for drying them properly that is also an issue I believe for the same reasons........re toe nail cutting he relies on his six weekly podiatrist appointment for that as just wouldn't be able to reach down that far...
....keeping a daily check on his feet is virtually out of the question ....it is a worry and concern....though he seems unconcerned about it...
....just to add to this.....neuropathy / loss of sensation in soles of feet means he can't feel any problems underneath (so doesn't worry about them)....also can potentially affect balance so standing on one foot and bending the other one up is not really a viable option....following a recent fall off a chair where he damaged his knee I would not want to suggest balancing on one foot anyway...is only asking for trouble....

He really must be a remarkable man for you to care so much and hang on to him in this way when he really doesn't care about himself.

I think ( from all the threads and posts Molly has made) it's more down to the woman, Molly, than the actual man himself.................................

Glad you are taking time out from things to enjoy your holiday.

As if one foot problem is not enough to contend with .....there is another one..

...this one seems to be developing under an existing patch of hardened skin on the big toe of his other foot...have just taken photo on iPad and shown him....
....not sure what to do with this other than keep an eye on it and hope for the best for the next week...evidently he has just told me that podiatrist has told him to go back to her if he has any problems but difficult when a couple of thousand miles from home...did suggest he could see someone here but will be his decision to make that call....am guessing he won't....
....any suggestions in the meantime.....apologies for the gruesome picture....:sorry:

O dear Molly, the wife sends her best wishes .. looks like you are in for a ruff ride here. I haven't had any foot problems (yet) but its not looking pretty for him is it. Best you keep recording things for when you get back, could you send the photos to his podiatrist ..so they can advise you/him online .. or at least know what to expect when you return from your holiday :)
