Hi

whilst my girlfriend is waiting for her results which we will hopefully have by weekend (thanks to the Bank Holiday), we have been reading several books on diabetes, one question I would like to ask is about feet, the books all say how important it is to keep your feet in good condition and that you should use E45 to help keep them soft, which I understand however they also say don’t do between the toes BUT they don’t say why. It is probably blatant to you but not to me. Doesn’t the skin between toes get dry and crack?
:?

Yes, but between the toes is a prime nesting ground for bacteria, and anything that encourages their growth (such as nice moist E45 lotion) is not a good thing. After my run-in with osteomyelitis 2 years ago, my podiatrist recommended I use surgical spirit with a piece of cotton wool every day between the toes, very important to keep this area as dry as possible. Hope that helps.

Fungi too, probably some antifungal powder between the toes would be a better option.

Mycota powder is good for the feet and reccomended and used by the Army if thats any help.

I may well be wrong but I don't keep my feet soft as they blister too easily in my awfull issued work boots. I work in wet conditions but due to ridiculous elf and safety law can't wear wellies  I wear ill fitting rigger boots and have just started to wear sealskinz waterproof socks. My feet are hard and don't blister much now.
