Oooooooh woe is me!

Facing 'womanly issues' and craving sweets like mad! I already overindulged at lunch and now have a headache which means my levels must be high.

I really really don't want my diabetes at the moment just so I can eat loads of chocolate.
What do you do at the time of the month? Anything you eat to take the edge off that doesn't interfere with your levels?

Hi @LucyM88

I sympathise...I suffer terribly at that time of the month...insulin resistance one week and sensitivity the next...along with all the aches and pains that come along with it...a proper roller coaster....you definitely need to treat yourself a little.

Check this link out for sweet treats... @ewelina is the queen of diabetic baking...her recipes have cheered me up many many times...sure you'll find something here.

@Brunneria also has a great hot choc recipe which I have written down somewhere but can't find it for the life of me.

Hope you feel better soon :)

You rang? :D

Low Carb Hot Choc
Boil kettle.
Add a heaped teasp of good quality cocoa powder to a big mug
Add 1.5 ish heaped teasp of sugar substitute to mug
Make the powders into a paste with a dribble of water (get rid of the lumps)
Add boiling water and stir until smooth
Top up with double cream.
Add caramel, lemon, orange or mint essences, if desired
Enjoy

All quantities adjustable

The monthly ship sailed for me some time ago, so no longer an issue thankfully, but my quick and dirty fix when I know I'm likely to eat something that I probably shouldn't is a chocolate mousse (I did type moose there initially) made with lightly whipped cream (leave it soft, otherwise it goes too stiff later, I often thin it with some milk first) and stir in cocoa powder to taste. You'll probably need something to sweeten it a little, depending on what you can tolerate - a liquid sweetener would work - I can't tolerate those so I have a teaspoon of elderflower cordial, which adds 3 or 4 grams carb. Alternatively, melt some dark chocolate instead of using cocoa powder - or do some of both. Layered with raspberries or summer fruit compot is even more lush.

I eased worst of my monthly craving by ditching anything and everything that uses artificial sweeteners, particularly carbonated drinks. I still do get it every other month or so, but nothing like it used to be and it only last short moment before the flow 'switch' is turned on...and then the cravings are gone.
My remedy is to eat something 'heavy' ...several boiled eggs...protein rich dinner etc...so there is no room in tummy for real carb binge, ...often not being hungry for food is enough to kill hunger for naughty stuff.
But then again...I'm not 'sweet' person neither...I often prefer savoury treats.
Countdown is ticking...no cravings as yet and 'the time' can start anytime now..hmm..maybe I should have some whipped cream and few blueberries.. :D 'burb'

I'll add on a few pieces of good quality dark chocolate at the end of a meal...hits the spot without over indulging. Sometimes I'll have it between meals depending on BG...the darker the better and less sugar too
