Hi Rosemaryx i dont think forgetting your tablet will do any harm i think metformin takes about 3 to 4 weeks to start acting anyway you will probably do your self more harm worrying by increasing you bg levels just chill and carry on as normal and you will be fine

Don't worry Rosemary, Mark is right met isn't an instant drug and builds up in your system, just take your next dose as normal, don't take your missed dose, relax you will be fine, I stopped taking my met for a few day a while ago as I had a tummy upset, didn't make a lot of difference for a couple of days so one dose missed isn't going to matter

So I just tested 2hours after eating Salmon,2 Boiled eggs, one slice of Burgen bread, and a packet of Quavers and my reading was 9.6...Before dinner it was 6.8...How can this be so high,I never had anything sweet...:arghh:

Next time try it without the bread and quavers, substitute with low sugar jelly or a couple of squares of 85% dark chocolate or some full fat greek yogurt and fresh strawberries, and see if there is any difference

According to myfitnesspal, Quavers (20.5g packet) is 12.8g of carb, not quite the 35g. But, even so, I would wager those haven't done your score any favours.

Thanks for that guys,no more Quavers for me...And I will try the yogurt Greek style,I have small pots in my fride...Can I still have cream, and what about bread,do I have to give it up completely...xox

who eats a standard pack:bag:. my money is on it being a grab bag @ 34g
before LC when I opened a block of family milk chocolate I always ate it all in 10 min:arghh:

It's more likely to be the Quavers than the Burgen bread. Did you check the carbs on the Quavers - in the nutrients details on the packet? All carbs are sugar - not just the obvious ones like biscuits. Yes, you can still have cream - double cream if you prefer it.

Hi @Rosemaryx

This is such a learning curve, isn't it? I gave up bread almost 6 weeks ago. As soon as I read about low carb/high fat on this forum I instantly gave up all bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, cakes, biscuits, crisps, sugary fruits, root vegetables and processed food.

I thought it would be difficult but the transition to a healthier way of living was instant. I didn't suffer the carb flu folk talk about and haven't missed the starchy carbs at all. I fell off the wagon for two days at Easter and it really affected me badly. 2 slices of bread as a treat snowballed to hot cross buns, and too much Easter egg chocolate. Carbs are definitely addictive where I am concerned and my BG rocketed. I don't intend to weaken again.

I love the unsweetened Greek yoghurt to which I add fresh berries. Double cream is lovely with stewed fruit, on top of the sugar free jellies and in cooking and the occasional cup of coffee. These will help you to feel you are eating well and you won't feel deprived. I'm surprised at how filling a plate of scrambled eggs with bacon or smoked salmon and some fresh chives snipped in can be for breakfast and I don't miss the toast to serve it on.

I'm a relative newbie here too, but from my own experience it has been necessary to give up bread completely for the time being at least, but I hope to reintroduce it occasionally when I've learned to control my BG and get them to a better level.

I hope this helps.

Thank you Diane, that makes Scence,I will give up the bread and see how I go,and I thought Quavers was ok to eat,but not any more...I went to bed last night and my reading was 8.6, I woke up this morning and it was 8.7, last night I had 3 Strawberrys, double cream, and a square of dark chocolate 70 per cent coaco, don't know what happened there,I thought these things were fine to eat...xox

your liver dumps 'sugar' of a morning, it's called dawn phenomenon.
your insulin resistance can't cope with it, diet should bring it down, if not metformin will help

Thanks Jack,am on 500x2 a day,I just had a boiled egg and natural Greek yougart, then going for a ride on my bike,I am off out today for a good few hours, would it be bad if I skip lunch...

Remember @Rosemaryx , it will take a while for your body to adjust. I wouldn't expect rapid changes, except in how you are feeling.

My BS readings are still adjusting 6 weeks on, but they are gonig in the right direction. The others will advise you on skipping a meal, but personally I wouldn't during these early days when your priority is to stablisie and reduce your BS.

Its a lovely day for a ride. Enjoy it! Test your BS before you go and as soon as you get back so that you can see the impact of exercise alone on your readings.

Happy Saturday :)

you exercise to be healthy and bring your BG down sometimes, they say 3 x 30min walks a week is all that's needed
heavy exercise will raise your BG
I found the met takes about 3 weeks to kick in
