i have recently started using the freestyle libre sensor and have found it excellent. A few issues with differences between readings and the traditional readings. Has anyone any comments on their experience. Peter

Hi,

Have a search in the search box. There must be 50 threads at least on the Libre. You will find all the information you need on those. Many people on this forum use them.

You must remember that the Libre measures interstitial fluid, whereas our meters read blood. The interstitial fluid runs 10 to 15 minutes behind blood so you need to test, then wait, then scan. You also need to take account of the meter and Libre accuracy tolerances. If you do some comparison tests, some at higher levels and some at lower ones, keep a record and average them. This should give you an estimate of how much higher or lower your Libre is reading and you can make mental adjustments.

My Libre sensors normally seem to run lower by around 1-1.5 points than my meter, but I get similar patterns from both (but obviously more detailed data from the Libre), which are really what I look for. I also find that, even though I've tried applying a new sensor and leaving it for 24 hours or so before I actually activate it, I'll get some wonky readings and false lows before it settles down.

But as @Bluetit1802 has said, so a search as there's plenty of information already here for the reading.

My hba1c dropped 0.6 points after the first 2 months even though i was running high during the night. Right now i have that under control and i'm expecting a much better hba1c. Off course it only shows you the data what you do with that data is much more important. I have a much better idea how different foods effect me and when to inject insulin. Also as measuring blood glucose is just a swipe away you can measure hundreds of times and correct accordingly.

I have little discomfort from the sensor and placing the sensor doesn't hurt. I exercise regularly and have yet to find it obstructive.

Overall i'd say i couldn't imagine being without it anymore and i've only had it since october last year.
