Free USB meter

Picked up my prescription today and on the box of needles was a little leaflet saying I could have a free USB bg meter just by posting my details to a free post address.

New to all this, I wonder what the catch is? Is it to do with test strips?

I use an optium exceed meter as this was the one given to me at diagnosis in Nov.

I guess I have nothing to lose by getting this, just wanted to see what you think?

Thanks! LH

Yep, it's probably down to the test strips Holls..these large compnaies don't believe in giving something for nothing!

Nothing wrong with getting another meter especially if you get some free test strips with it!

Loads of these companies give Meters away for free. They just want peoe to buy their strips where the real money is made. Get the meter - might get a few free strips with it. Then just stick with whatever meter requires the cheapest strips.

Interesting that they are now giving away the Contour USB meter, was the leaflet in a BD Micro-fine needle box?

Yep it was the bd needle box.

I don't pay for strips, just use what I'm prescribed. I'll send off for the meter and free strips to just use as a spare!

I guess there's a lot to be made from diabetic healthcare!

Hi

I have just sent off for one - leaflet on top of my box of needles which I collected on Thursday. I do buy strips as I wish to take my glucose more than once a day and the doctors only give me 51 strips per month. I am on insulin and byetta so do need to keep an eye on what is happening more than once daily.

I think it's terrible they only give you that many strips on insulin. I'd go back and argue the case. Do you drive? If so, point out you are advised you have to test before you drive each time so need more strips to fulfil your requirements. If you don't drive, ask how you can monitor the effects of insulin doseage against your carb intake with less than 2 strips a day. Or could you suggest you are getting hypo feelings and need to test? I don't knhow; I'm not on insulin. But I'd argue like hell.
Good luck.
