Type 2 freestyle libre 2 really stupid question?

I can't seem to find the answer... after scanning the patch, the sensor says to do a blood test. The sensor seems to have a place at the bottom to insert a strip, but no strips came with the prescription. Is this something I need to purchase separately?

Sorry if I've posted this in the wrong forum or topic.

Hi, welcome, once you scan the disk on your phone, you wait an hour and then rescan it for a reading, no strips required

Do you have the freestyle libre app on your smartphone?

the sensor says to do a blood test

Did it say anything else?

If you get very high or very low results, you can get this message. The idea is to confirm that the libre results are accurate before taking action like taking glucose for a low or insulin for a high.

They don't come with the sensors. You can buy the strips separately or you might be able to get them added to your prescription.

I got a sensor with my patch and used that and yes, I waited an hour. My reading had the icon which indicates do a blood test according to instructions. ?

Btw, I loaded the wrong app on my phone, created an account, realized my error, installed the right app, but it rejects my acct login, won't let me create a new acct, and if I click forgot password, I get a message saying there's a problem... LOL. One of those days!

Ah ok, it’s been years since I used the reader thingy and I’m pretty technophobic re the app, you can use the reader with strips but you do not need them, it should give you a number on the screen without a finger prick

Hi. Many phones can be used with the Libre e.g. I use Samsung Galaxy 8. You need to download and install the Librelink app. If you start the sensor with the Abbot Freestyle reader you need to continue to use that for the two weeks. With the next sensor you can start that with the phone if you prefer and then use the phone.

I have not used the reader at all.
I use an app in my phone.
It is not a stupid question tbh it is the first time for me knowing that the reader can be a meter

The reader can use The FreeStyle Optium Blood Glucose Test Strips for blood glucose readings and FreeStyle Optium β Ketone Test Strips for self-testing your blood ketones.

You beat me to it, John.

My original Libre sensor came as a kit with a reader, which initially I also used as a meter with the glucose strips to compare with my scans and my usual Contour meter readings, and I still use it occasionally to check my blood ketone levels.

Can anyone tell me why my blood sugar goes up after I go for a 40 minute walk ????
Not just once, happens all the time, then slowly goes down after an hour or so, don't understand it.

Peoples response to exercise differ ... some have decrease in blood glucose levels to exercise others see an increase. I too have an increase in blood glucose when exercising - but that helps protect me against hypos when exercising :)
