FreeStyle Libre and airport security

Hi all.

I've read other posts on the forum saying that if you're wearing a sensor it seems OK going through the security gates at airports, but can anyone tell me if it's OK to put spare sensors through the X-ray machines in hand-luggage, please? Has anyone done this and do the sensors work OK afterwards?

Many thanks.

Hi,
I travel a fair bit, and usually have a spare Freestyle Libre sensor pack in my hand luggage (which always gets scanned) - up until now I've had absolutely no problems.
Hope that helps...

Many thanks for your reply! In fact, I flew yesterday, took a chance and then changed to a new sensor this morning. The spare works fine, to my relief! I haven't been using FreeStyle Libre long, but do find it very useful to know roughly where I am, what the trend is.
Thanks again.

I really appreciate this thread as was wondering the same. Will be flying with my seven year old this week from Heathrow and she will be wearing a free style Libre and I will be carrying a spare in hand lugage. Would like to avoid drawing attention to her as she is sensitive, but it won't be terrible if we are questioned on her Freddie Freestyle as she likes to call him, provided we are let through and the scanner doesn't affect the readings. So useful, as has been said, to have a rough idea of where we are and which way we are headed, even if Freddie is not that accurate at the margins (or, rather, reads the past rather than the present situation). This morning we had a 3.9 reading but her appearance doesn't lie in hypo so we pricked and she was 1.8! I should have realised it was time for a biscuit when she was 6 with a downward arrow showing she was falling fast. Would recommend the Libre to all those parents who can afford it. We got our monitor on the NHS and a trial sensor but now have to buy the sensors but it is worth it for quality of life.

Hi JAPF, I flew Toulouse/Gatwick and neither of the security gates you have to walk through in either airport picked up the sensor, so no one was aware I was wearing it. I hope it all goes smoothly for your daughter, too.
