Freestyle Libre and MRI Scans

I injured my knee playing football back in May and it hasn't healed up so went to the specialist today (I've got private medical insurance) and he said I've most likely got a lateral meniscus tear and I'm having an MRI scan this afternoon to confirm.

Unfortunately, I have to remove my Libre sensor which is a bit frustrating because I only put it on on Friday so it's the best part of £50 down the drain: I didn't expect to have an MRI so quick otherwise I wouldn't have put it on!

Guess I shouldn't complain about getting it done quickly (I think the reason is he wants to see me next week as he's on holiday after that), but it's worth bearing in mind that you can't keep a sensor on for an MRI (which makes sense if you think about it) and plan accordingly if you have a bit more notice :)

I'd keep it on until I got there and ask the person doing the scan if it can stay.

Maybe I'm just awkward.
 
i had an MRI about 2 weeks ago and had to remove my omnipod pump --- they don't like anything interfering with the magnets in the scanner.
 
It's not just interference with the scanner its possible damage that can be done to the Insulin pump itself and this also includes X rays.

It's not so much the damage to the devices, maybe damage to you and the equipment, MRIs magnetic field is strong enough to whip off that sensor (with its measly metal content) or pump. I don't think it cares which way through it comes out either.
 
apart from all the other problems that have already been hightlighted in their replies .... any metal, gold for example (non-magnetic) becomes so unbearably hot, scorchingly hot in fact, you would be screaming with agony as it sunk into your flesh. sorry to be so graphic ...lol

I have to concur with these posts strongly.

However, I have never found my gold wedding ring heats up, even though it's fairly thick. I have had a fair few spinal/whole spine MRI's/MRA's in 2 different neurosurgical centres, what happens to me is that my ring vibrates when they actively scan near it.
 
If its pure gold then it won't be affected by a magnetic field
